67’s begin final 20 game stretch
The Ottawa 67’s are back at home this week for a pair of games that could once again shuffle the Eastern Conference standings.
Kicking off another stretch of five-straight home games on Friday night with a clash against the Niagara IceDogs, the 67’s will also host the Peterborough Petes for Sunday’s matinee at the Arena at TD Place.
Coming off three nail-biters in a row – including a pair of overtime games and one that went to a shootout – the 67’s sit seventh in the Eastern Conference but only four points behind the fifth-place North Bay Battalion.
While Ottawa came up short in last extra-time games, in each case the team showed its ability to dig deep and come back to steal points. Scoring, however, has not been an issue for the 67’s who have scored 21 times over the last five games.
OPPOSITION
Niagara IceDogs (26-14-4-3)
The IceDogs have won just two out of their last five games but have had consistent winning streaks prior to that and they are currently occupying second place in the Eastern Conference. They have a strong offence that has scored 19 goals in their previous five games. This will be the fourth meeting between these two sides this season. The 67’s won the first encounter but have lost the last two. The IceDogs are led by winger Johnny Corneil who enters Friday’s game with 31 goals and 62 points in 67 games.
Peterborough Petes (18-24-3-3)
The Petes have had a tough go since starting the year with a five-game winning streak. They are currently on a six-match losing streak and are ninth in the Eastern Conference. These two sides have played each other six times this season with the 67’s leading the Petes 4-2 in the win department. The last time these two sides met, the Barber Poles cruised to a dominating 6-1 win. Austen Keating and Tye Felhaber each scored a pair of goals in that one.

- Austen Keating has eight points in his previous five games
- Last weekend’s set of games saw Travis Barron notching up 400+ career faceoff wins. His current tally is 405. Meanwhile, Sasha Chmelevski needs one more to register 800 faceoff wins for the 67’s.
