3 Players to Watch this Weekend
The Ottawa 67’s kick off 2019 with back to back games at home starting Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against Barrie and then once again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against the Generals. The boys will look to get back in the win column Saturday against the Otters after dropping their final game of 2018 and then will look to keep it rolling with a win over their division rivals. Here’s who you need to watch for this weekend’s back to back.
The sophomore star is on another tear this season. After posting 44 points in his rookie campaign, Suzuki is clicking along with 12 goals and 28 assists in the first 35 games of 2018-19. Last year’s first overall pick, Ryan, like his brother Nick, is on his way to become a high NHL Draft selection this June. With four points (3G, 1A) in his last two games, look for him to be dangerous at TD Place this weekend.
The Guelph, Ontario native is having himself a career year. Averaging more than 1.33 points per game Keating has 51 points in 38 games played this season and leads the league with 39 assists. The 19 year old has been a big part of the 67’s top line and is two points away from a career milestone of 200. Austen also received the honour to represent Team OHL this season in the annual Canada-Russia series alongside fellow 67 Kevin Bahl. A former first round OHL pick, Keating has spent time with the Toronto Maple Leafs at camp but is unsigned. That being said, if Keating’s play continues at this rate he has a chance to change that. Definitely keep an eye out for Austen this weekend, although he has asserted himself as a playmaker this year he is certainly more than capable of finding the back of the net himself.
This Ottawa native is tough to miss. Towering at 6’5″, Noel is a force on the ice. The 18 year old has improved every season he’s been in the league already three points shy of a career high with 50 points in 38 games. Typically thought of as a goal scorer Serron is a distributor as well with 22 goals and 28 assists this year. He also has connections to Ottawa other than being from the area, Serron played alongside 67’s defenceman Kevin Bahl on Team Canada at the Hlinka-Gretzky (then Hlinka Memorial) Cup, winning gold. A Florida Panthers prospect, Noel was selected by in the second round, 34th overall in the most recent NHL draft.
