67’s close out November with a win
The Ottawa 67’s and the North Bay Battalion both arrived at TD Place on Sunday with the intention to close out their weekends undefeated. Ultimately, it was the 67’s who came out on top, with a 6-3 evening victory over the Battalion.
The game started tit-for-tat; momentum swung both ways through the first. North Bay would strike first, thanks to a tipped point-shot that flung past Ryder Fetterolf’s ear. The 67’s would answer back at the halfway through the first, off of a scooped rebound by Spencer Bowes, who danced around goaltender Michael McIvor before flinging the biscuit on the now-empty net. While shots favoured the 67’s 12-10 after 20, Fetterolf was electric—showing off his reflexes early in the first, stopping a puck off a turnover in the slot and later making a cross-crease extension to stop a pass from behind the net to the net-front. Without him, the game could’ve easily been 3-1 North Bay after one.
Discipline would prove to be a problem for the Battalion in the second. The barberpoles would capitalise on a lingering power play from the tail-end of the first, with Thomas Vandenberg tipping a point-shot from Kohyn Eshkawkogan through McIvor’s five-hole. A few minutes later, the Battalion rookie Cam Warren would answer back on the breakaway. Vandenberg would pick up another goal on the power play after a North Bay hooking call. Both teams exchanged goals in the back half of the period; Ondrej Ruml netted one for the 67’s, and Ethan Procyszyn scored for North Bay.
With just a one-goal lead and North Bay swinging the game back in their favour to end the second, it was crucial for the 67’s to come out strong. Shaan Kingwell made sure that was the case, burying a point shot. Eshkawkogan would connect on his fourth point of the night, a career high, netting the secondary assist on a power play goal by Cooper Foster–setting the final score of 6-3.

Up next
Ahead of this weekend, the 67’s snapped a five-game win streak, losing a tight game against the Owen Sound Attack. “After that loss [in Owen Sound], it was tough; but you can’t win all of the games,” said Kohyn Eshkawkogan after Sunday’s win. It was that mindset that helped the 67’s close out these past two games. “We want to start a new streak and see how it goes.”
The 67’s will hit the next ice on December 5th, welcoming the Barrie Colts at TD Place at 7 p.m. Fans can buy tickets to the game here. After that, the 67’s will travel to Peterborough to take on the Petes on the 6th before returning home on Sunday to host the red-hot Firebirds at 3 p.m.
