Mews stars in 67’s victory over Attack
The Ottawa 67’s closed out their four-game home stand with a win on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-3.
Under two minutes in, the Attack hit the gas pedal, and scored the game’s first goal. Jake Crawford took a feed from Sam McCue, and beat Collin MacKenzie with a patient move, stunning the home fans, many of whom were yet to find their seats.
About 12 minutes later, Henry Mews pulled the Barber Poles level after a cross-ice pass from Frankie Marrelli, wiring a shot past Carter George’s glove. Owen Sound answered back not long after, when McCue took advantage of a fortuitous bounce, sending the Attack to the locker room up a goal.
In the second, Mews notched his second of the afternoon under five minutes in to tie the game for a second time, and as time wound down in the frame, the Ottawa native thought he had struck again to complete his first career OHL hat trick, but the goal was credited to Cooper Foster, instead.
Early in the third, Ethan Kindree got just enough of a shot out front, beating MacKenzie for his first career OHL goal, but the Barber Poles didn’t want to see overtime for the second straight game, and that became more apparent as time drained off the clock.
With under five minutes left to play, Henry Mews picked up his fourth point of the afternoon, sending a pass over to Luca Pinelli, who found Brady Stonehouse all alone at the goalmouth. He blasted home his second of the year, sending the 67’s home with two more points in the back.
