67’s defeat Petes 5-4
The 67’s had a strong team effort in tonight’s 5-4 win over the Peterborough Petes and earned two important points in the Eastern Conference standings.
The opening period saw Ottawa get on the board first on a cross ice pass by Adam Craievich to Evan de Haan, who got his fourth goal of the season. However, with only a few minutes remaining in the first, the Pete’s Hunter Garlent got his team on the board, making it tie game after 20.
In the second, Peterborough got the go ahead goal early, but the 67’s responded quickly with a powerplay goal by Dante Salituro snapped quick release shot top cheese to tie the game at two.
Ottawa took control of the second half of the period with three goals coming from Travis Barron, Evan de Haan, and Ben Fanjoy. With only seconds left in the period, the Petes cut into the lead, to make it 5-3 in favour of the Barber Poles.
The lightning-quick offence by the 67’s in the second period forced the Petes to pull Matthew Mancina from the net and put in Dylan Wells to start of the final frame.
Peterborough scored early in the third to make it 5-4, but were unable to get the equalizer, even with the extra attacker out in the ice for the last minute and a half of the period.
At the end of the game, Coach Jeff Brown told the media that “this was a huge win for us.”
The 67’s have a quick turnaround and will face off against the East Division leading Kingston Frontenacs at 1 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
