67’s visit Fronts tonight
The Ottawa 67’s will roll into the K-Rock Centre tonight for the last time this year to play the division rival Kingston Frontenacs. The 67’s lead the season series 4-3 and look for a big 2 points today that would help them catch up to Niagara for top seed in the Eastern Conference. Even though Kingston sits last in the conference they have been 4-5-0-1 in their last ten.
The last time the 2 teams met was Family Day in Kingston, and the 67’s took home a 2-1 win with goals from Ceci and Toffoli being disallowed.
The rebuilding Fronts have been helped by rookie Ryan Kawjawinski who has 26 points in 25 games since coming over from Sarnia at the trade deadline. Kingston Defenseman and local boy Alex Gudbranson younger brother of Florida Panther Erik, is prejected to be drafted in this years NHL Draft as well.
The 67’s have been bitten by the injury bug recently losing captain Marc Zanetti, 2nd round NHL pick Shane Prince, power forward Ryan Van Stralen, overage Daniel Broussard and defenceman turned forward Taylor Fielding in the last couple of weeks. They are expecting to a get few of those players back this weekend.
Despite injury woes the 67’s took home 5 of a possible 6 points this past weekend despite playing 3 games in 3 days against 3 playoff teams including a 2-1 win over the first place London Knights.
The 67’s will have to try not to look past the Frontenacs towards the Niagara Ice Dogs who will be visiting the J.Benson Cartage Centre on Friday at 7:30 and possible first round opponent Missisauga on Sunday at 2:00.
