3-v-3: Players to watch tonight at TD Place
A look at three key players for each team ahead tonight’s game between your Ottawa 67’s and the Peterborough Petes.
67’s
Sasha Chmelevski (#89)
In his first game as a member of the 67’s, Chmelevski is definitely a player to watch. Though his name may not be a recognizable one, it soon will be. Drafted 10th overall by Sarnia in this year’s OHL Priority Selection, the California-born centre has nine goals and eight assists in his rookie year so far. He’ll slide right on to one of the 67’s top lines, so look for him impress early.
Chase Campbell (#39)
Another forward making his 67’s debut, Chase Campbell will draw into the team’s starting lineup tonight against the Petes. Campbell will most likely be a role player for Ottawa, fitting in to the bottom six somewhere. His never-give-up attitude and hard work will make him a favourite of 67’s head coach/GM Jeff Brown.
Stepan Falkovsky (#51)
Back after a two-week break at the World Juniors, Ottawa’s back end will get a “big” boost with Falkovsky in the lineup. The hulking d-man was leading the team’s defence in scoring, though Evan de Haan has surpassed him in his absence. Look for the Belarusian blue liner to regain his points lead tonight versus the Petes.
Petes
Hunter Garlent (#23)
The Thorold, ON native leads his team in points, with 44 and has already smashed his past personal best of 40. Garlent’s riding high on a three-game point streak that’s seen him rack up two goals and two assists over that streak. Look for Garlent to use his dynamic offensive skill to factor into the game story tonight at TD Place.
Matthew Mancina (#33)
Acquired last season by Petes’ GM Michael Oke, goaltender Matthew Mancina has evolved into the netminder Peterborough was hoping for. Last season the Petes finished ten games under .500, though Mancina posted a winning record (19-17-1) and added two shutouts. He’s on a winning team this year and if the Petes hope to defeat the 67’s, their starting goalie will have to be at his best.
Greg Betzold (#21)
The Petes best goal scorer this season, Betzold already has 25 in his first 36 games. He missed the last meeting between these two teams as he was suspended for an elbow to the head of Attack forward Josh Sterk. Though he may have a nasty streak, Betzold is one of Peterborough’s leaders in the offensive zone. Look for him to play a big role for the Petes this evening.
