Rimouski, February 9, 2009 – The Organizing Committee for the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup is pleased to announce several new initiatives that figure among the projects undertaken over the last several months of planning and organizing this major event. In addition to a large grant received from Tourism Québec, the Committee is particularly excited about the availability of standing-room-only tickets for fans and the Green Cup project.

The Organizing Committee is very pleased to announce that it has received a $100,000 grant from Tourism Québec for the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup. This large contribution will surely contribute to the success of the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup. This grant is a first step to making a memorable event for the people of the whole region. The Organizing Committee hopes that this is the first of many good news of this kind.

In addition, standing-room-only tickets will be available on Saturday, February 21, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Océanic box office. A total of 500 standing-room-only ticket booklets will be available, at a cost of $350, including tax. Each ticket package contains standing–room-only tickets for all the tournament games. A maximum of two packages per person will be allowed and complete payment will be required at the time of purchase. The tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. To serve fans from the entire region, the ticket packages will be available on site at the Colisée and by telephone, at 418-721-5555, or at the toll free number, 1-800-463-4450.
Those who have put their names on the waiting list for seating tickets will have a response from the Host Committee around April, depending on the amount of tickets that are made available.

The MasterCard Memorial Cup will also be flying new colours in 2009. For the first time in its 91 years, the National Championship will be a Green Cup. The Organizing Committee of the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup, together with the Canadian Hockey League, is pleased to announce a green initiative that will help make the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup an environmentally responsible event. An action plan focusing on the reduction and recycling of waste and compensation for the greenhouse gas emissions has been prepared and approved. For more details, please consult the attached summary of the Green Cup action plan.

The Organizing Committee is also proud to announce that its goal of recruiting 500 volunteers has been greatly exceeded. The latest numbers show that almost 600 people have signed up to become volunteers for the event. Since the required number of volunteers has already been reached, the registration form will soon be removed from the Océanic website.
