He first posted a .905 save percentage in 23 games for the last-place Drakkar, before going on to dominate in goal for the Saguen\u00e9ens, recording 13 wins in 15 games along with a 1.52 goals-against average and a .940 save percentage. Overall, the Ottawa Senators prospect finished second in the QMJHL with six shutouts, third with a .917 save percentage, and fifth with a 2.60 goals-against average.<\/p>\n<p><strong>William Lacelle, Rimouski Oc\u00e9anic and Blainville-Boisbriand Armada<\/strong><br \/>\nLacelle finished the season with a 27-15-1-1 record, a 2.49 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage, and a league-leading seven shutouts. The sixth busiest goaltender in the league (45 games), Lacelle helped keep the Oc\u00e9anic in the playoff race during the first half of the season (.919 in 24 games). After being traded to the Armada, he stabilized the team\u2019s goaltending in the second half (.915 in 21 games). The organization had previously held this privilege in 1989, when it was known as the Saint-Hyacinthe Laser. Patrick Poulin was chosen first overall then.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"674\" data-start=\"469\">The Huskies were the favorites to win the lottery with 9 balls out of 21 (42.9% odds), through a pick that originally belonged to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, who finished 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and last in the QMJHL standings.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"860\" data-start=\"676\">Rouyn-Noranda will pick first ahead of the Victoriaville Tigres, who moved up from fourth to second place thanks to the lottery. The Bois-Francs team had only two balls (9.5%) in play.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1009\" data-start=\"862\">The Halifax Mooseheads secured the third overall pick, holding the second-best odds (28.6%, 6 balls) via a pick acquired from the Rimouski Oc\u00e9anic.<\/p>\n<p data-end=\"1223\" data-start=\"1011\">Like Halifax, the Shawinigan Cataractes (3 balls, 14.3%) dropped one spot, while the Saint John Sea Dogs (1 ball, 4.8%) remained in fifth position. From that total, five players suited up in the QMJHL this past season.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>The squad was selected by general manager Alan Millar (Tottenham, ON) and head scout Byron Bonora (Brooks, AB), with support from Benoit Roy (Sudbury, ON), director of hockey operations, Scott Salmond (Creston, BC), senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations, and coordinator of hockey operations Jared Power (Calgary, AB).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing a competitive camp, we are pleased to announce this group of 25 players who will begin the 2026 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship for Canada,\u201d said Millar. \u201cWe are excited about our group\u2019s competitiveness, talent and character as we prepare to open the tournament tomorrow against the host Slovaks. This team will represent Canada and their respective hometowns with pride and humility.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The roster includes three players who won a gold medal at the 2025 U18 Men\u2019s Worlds (Di Iorio, Lin, Verhoeff) and 12 who won bronze at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup (Betts, Chartrand, Di Iorio, Esler, Lawrence, Lemieux, Lin, Preston, Rousseau, Valentini, Verhoeff, Zhilkin). It also includes 19 players who have represented Canada at the U17 World Challenge\u2014nine who won gold (Betts, Croskery, Joseph, Lawrence, Lemieux, Lin, Preston, Valentini, Verhoeff) and 10 who took home silver (Ambrosio, Chartrand, Dagenais, Di Iorio, Eshkawkogan, Esler, Hicks, Jacobson, Olson)\u2014and six players making their Program of Excellence debuts (Cali, De\u0301niger, Hamilton, MacBeath, Olsen, Vandenberg).<\/p>\n<p>Canada &#8211; who has won gold six times previously &#8211; opens its tournament Wednesday against Slovakia and will also face Latvia (April 23), Norway (April 25) and Finland (April 27) in the round-robin. It also marks the first time in QMJHL history that a Voltigeurs head coach has received this award.<\/p>\n<p>In a surprising turn, Favreau guided the Voltigeurs in a season-long battle for top spot in the Western Conference, ultimately finishing just one point behind the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.<\/p>\n<p>Gilles-Courteau Trophy champions in 2024, the Voltigeurs finished third overall in 2024-2025 and fifth in 2025-2026.<\/p>\n<p>An achievement in itself, considering the team relied on just one 60-point scorer, Jesse Allecia, and only one other 50-point scorer, Renaud Poulin.<\/p>\n<p>The Voltigeurs operated by committee, finishing sixth in both goals for and goals against, despite dressing two rookie goaltenders throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p>They were particularly effective at even strength, as they ranked 17<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0on the power play and 16<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0on the penalty kill. Few would have predicted that at the start of the season, especially following the trade that sent Bill Zonnon to the Armada. Rouyn-Noranda\u2019s defence stood out in particular, finishing fourth in the league with 178 goals against, while the offence ranked seventh. Third on both the power play and penalty kill, the Huskies\u2014who were the second least penalized team\u2014were led by Thomas Verdon up front, Antoine St-Laurent on defence, and Samuel Meloche in goal. Before joining the Huskies in 2024, Hartley, 40, spent just over four seasons as head coach of the Voltigeurs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yanick Jean, Chicoutimi Saguen\u00e9ens<\/strong><br \/>\nFor the past four years, Yanick Jean and the Saguen\u00e9ens have been building toward the 2025-2026 season\u2014and it delivered for Chicoutimi fans. The Sags finished second overall, just one point behind Moncton. Ranking first in offence, defence, power play, and penalty kill, the Saguen\u00e9ens were dominant across the board, while also being the third least penalized team in the league. The team featured nine 50-point scorers, four defencemen with 40+ points, and two goaltenders performing at an elite level in Lucas Beckman and Rapha\u00ebl Pr\u00e9court. Among all players who appeared in more than 20 games this season, his 1.73 points-per-game average was the highest. To put that into perspective, had he played 64 games, he could have finished with 111 points. Desnoyers was a key contributor to the Wildcats\u2019 second consecutive regular season title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Verdon, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies<\/strong><br \/>\nVerdon\u2019s 95 points ranked third in the QMJHL, while his 59 assists placed him second. He collected 36 power-play points (3<sup>rd<\/sup>) and led the league with 10 game-winning goals, helping the Huskies capture the Western Conference title in surprising fashion.
