Foreurs’ Veilleux thrilled to represent Canada for the first time at World Juniors Summer Showcase

For the first time ever, Philippe Veilleux is representing Canada.

The Val-d’Or Foreurs star was selected to Canada’s roster for the 2026 World Juniors Summer Showcase in Windsor where he suited up Wednesday night in a 5-3 loss to Sweden.

“It feels good to be here,” Veilleux said. I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a privilege to be here so that I can prove myself and show what I can do.”

When you look at his offensive output over the past two seasons, his call-up is thoroughly deserved. He has registered back-to-back 40-goal seasons and recorded point totals of 87 and 96. This past season, he finished second in QMJHL scoring.

“I want to show that I am a good player, a good teammate,” Veilleux said. “I want to show my skills, what I can do on the ice. I wanted to take a step to my game and I think that’s what I did this summer. I trained hard for this opportunity.

Surprisingly, the 19-year-old has gone undrafted twice in the NHL but with a strong showcase this week, and with the hope he can make Canada’s World Juniors roster, an entry-level deal likely isn’t to far away.

Couple that with the fact he is returning to the Foreurs for one last season, a lot of scouts will have their eyes on what the native of St-Bruno de Mortarvi does in 2026-27.

“I’m happy about the decision I made and we’re going to have a great team next week. I can’t wait to get started.”
