CHL Top-10 Rankings presented by Delta Hotels by Marriott: Week 16
Today, the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced the Week 16 edition of its CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2024-25 season.
With a CHL-best 37 wins this season, the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) continue to sit on top of the rankings for the ninth week in a row. Right behind them, in second for a second straight week, is the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL), who hold a 13-point lead for first place in the WHL’s overall standings. Rounding out the top three is the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL, who climbed up two places to rank a season-best third after winning three straight including a noteworthy 5-2 victory over No.1-ranked London last week.
Among the week’s biggest changes are the continued rise of the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL and the return of the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL to the CHL Top-10 Rankings. With eight wins over their last 10 games, including points in five straight games (4-0-0-1), the Hitmen have risen to a season-best seventh. Meanwhile, having strung together nine victories in a row and catapulted into second place in the WHL’s overall standings, the Tigers have jumped into ninth and are ranked among the CHL’s Top 10 for the first time since October 22.
The next rankings will be released the week of February 3, following the 17th week of regular season action in all three member leagues of the CHL.
CHL Top-10 Rankings – Week 16
1. London Knights (OHL): As they continue to lead the CHL with 37 wins during the 2024-25 season, the London Knights (37-7-1-0) are once again sitting No. 1 for the ninth straight week. Over the last seven days, the Knights won three of a four-game road trip, only falling short against the No.3-ranked Kitchener Rangers 5-2 last Tuesday night. The latter represented just their third regulation loss over 37 games since October 20, as they hold a CHL-best 33-3-1-0 record over that stretch. During the last week, Winnipeg Jets prospect Jacob Julien (8G-24A in 45 GP) and San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson (20G-38A in 34 GP) led the Knights in scoring with six points each. Julien (0G-6A over last 4 GP) was the only London player to tally a point in all four road games, while Dickinson (3G-3A) has tallied a goal in three straight games as he now has a career-best 20 goals this season. Additionally, although he only played in a pair of contests last week, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan (17G-19A in 26 GP) picked up a point in each of those games to extend his point streak to 62 straight regular-season games. Given that Cowan has strung together his 62-game streak over two seasons, it won’t be considered the record (which is held by Laval Voisin & QMJHL alumnus Mario Lemieux, who tallied a point in 61 straight games during the 1983-84 season). However, Cowan’s feat is nonetheless incredible and worthy of recognition. Similarly, goaltender Austin Elliott (20-0-0-0 record, 2.27 GAA, .916 SV% & 2 SO in 20 GP) is currently in the midst of an incredible streak of his own. Elliott picked up a pair of victories in his two starts over the last week to remain unbeaten in 2024-25, as he has now won 23 straight starts this season (if you include the three wins he got with the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades to start the 2024-25 campaign). Specifically, his 20 consecutive victories in the OHL this season are just four shy of the OHL record held by Ray LeBlanc of the 1983-84 Kitchener Rangers, who earned 24 straight wins over 40 years ago. This week, Cowan and Elliott will look to extend their streaks as London welcomes Erie to Canada Life Place on Friday, before they head to Windsor to face the No.6-ranked Spitfires on Sunday.
2. Everett Silvertips (WHL): Although they started the last week with a pair of losses, the Everett Silvertips (34-6-4-3) rebounded over the weekend by securing two victories to help maintain their place in second in this week’s rankings. Ultimately, the Silvertips put together a 2-1-1-0 record in the last week, securing a point in three of four contests. Their lone regulation loss of the week, their first since in 12 games, came against the No.8-ranked Spokane Chiefs last Wednesday. Dating back to December 14, the Silvertips have registered a point in 14 of their last 15 contests (10-1-2-2). Although he didn’t register a point in their victory over the Americans on Sunday, 2025 NHL Draft prospect Carter Bear (32G-35A in 40 GP) co-led the team in scoring with five points last week. Bear tallied a goal against Spokane, Wenatchee, and Seattle, as he has goals in five of his last seven games. His 32 goals in 2024-25 are tied for second-most of any skater in the WHL, just two shy of league leader Spokane’s Shea Van Olm (34 goals). Meanwhile, Bear’s 67 points rank sixth in WHL scoring this season. Meanwhile, goaltender Jesse Sanche (18-4-2-0 record, 2.17 GAA, .920 SV% & 1 SO in 25 GP) was instrumental in the Silvertips’ two victories. After struggling against Spokane on Wednesday, Sanche registered 30-plus saves against both Seattle and Tri-City, allowing only a goal in each of those games, to help his team secure a pair of wins. Sanche continues to lead the WHL in both goals-against average (2.17) and save percentage (.920) in 2024-25. This week, Everett will first welcome the No.9-ranked Medicine Hat Tigers, before facing Kelowna, No.8-ranked Spokane, and Kamloops on consecutive nights over the weekend. Fans can catch the CHL Top-10 showdown between the Silvertips and Tigers live at 7:05 p.m. PT for free tomorrow on the WHL’s YouTube channel and WHL Live on CHL TV as part of the WHL’s Wednesday Night in The Dub program.
3. Kitchener Rangers (OHL): On the heels of stringing together three victories in a row, including a big 5-2 win over the No.1-ranked Knights last Tuesday, the Kitchener Rangers (33-9-3-1) are up two spots to rank a season-best third this week. The Rangers’ 33 victories rank fourth in the CHL, trailing only London (37), Everett (34), and Moncton (34). Having earned a point in eight of their last 10 games, including seven wins, Kitchener currently sits second in the OHL’s overall standings. They are one of just four teams in the CHL with fewer than 10 regulation losses in 2024-25. During their three wins last week, the Rangers got offense from plenty of different sources. Specifically, Chicago Blackhawks prospect Jack Pridham (15G-14A in 27 GP), Vegas Golden Knights prospect Trent Swick (19G-23A in 41 GP), 20-year-old forward Adrian Misaljevic (23G-24A in 46 GP) along with pair of 2025 NHL Draft prospects Tanner Lam (9G-25A in 45 GP) and Cameron Reid (8G-29A in 46 GP) each led the team in scoring with four points over their current three-game winning streak. Additionally, goaltender Jackson Parsons (27-8-2-0 record, 2.18 GAA, .923 SV% & 4 SO in 37 GP) continued to be a force for the Rangers. The 20-year-old netminder made 28 saves against the No.-1 ranked Knights, before registering his 10th performance of 30-plus saves of the season against the Otters to secure his 26th and 27th wins of the 2024-25 campaign. The 27 wins for Parsons this season match his previous career-best, a mark he set over 51 games in 2023-24. This week, Parsons will look to set a new benchmark during the Rangers’ road trip to Sault-Sainte-Marie, Flint, and Saginaw.
4. Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL): Having split their games last week, with their lone 5-3 loss coming at the hands of the No.5-ranked Océanic, the Moncton Wildcats (34-8-2-0) slipped one spot for the second week in a row. This time falling down a place to fourth, where they find themselves outside the top three for the first time since December 10. The Wildcats have just four wins over their last seven games, having lost two of their last three. The latter helps to explain their recent slip – but don’t be surprised if they rebound quickly here. Moncton continues to do a great job of protecting their net, as they have allowed two goals or fewer in nine of their last 11 contests (2.18 goals allowed per game over that stretch). During their two-game stretch last week, 20-year-old forward Markus Vidicek (23G-16A in 44 GP) led the way for the Wildcats with five points, including registering his third career QMJHL hat-trick on Friday against Acadie-Bathurst. Vidicek now has points in seven of his last nine outings (5G-6A over that stretch). Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Dyllan Gill (1G-6A in 7 GP) is settling with his new QMJHL club, having scored his first goal as a member of the Wildcats on Saturday. Additionally, although 2025 NHL Draft prospect Caleb Desnoyers (27G-35A in 39 GP) saw his 15-game point streak snapped against Rimouski, he did pot a pair of goals against Acadie-Bathurst the night before. With 62 points in 39 games this season, Desnoyers continues to rank among the QMJHL top-5 leading scorers. This week, Moncton will travel to Cape Breton to face Eagles, before returning home to face that same Nova Scotian club at the Avenir Centre.
Games this week: @ Cape Breton (Jan. 30), vs. Cape Breton (Feb. 1)
5. Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL): Having earned a point in nine of their last 10 games (7-1-1-1), including an important 5-3 victory over the No. 4-ranked Wildcats, the Rimouski Océanic (30-11-1-2) continue to sit among the top five for the second week in a row. Over the last week, in addition to their win over Moncton, Rimouski edged the Sea Dogs 7-3 to start their week, before capping things off with a 6-3 loss to Charlottetown. Their recent stretch of success has the Océanic, with two games in hand, within just two points of the Voltigeurs for second place in the QMJHL’s overall standings. During their three-game stretch last week, QMJHL leading scorer Jonathan Fauchon (33G-38A in 44 GP), 19-year-old Maël St-Denis (18G-15A in 38 GP) and Anaheim Ducks prospect Alexandre Blais (17G-34A in 51 GP) co-led Rimouski in scoring with six points each. For his part, St-Denis recorded five goals during those three games. Over his last five outings, he’s found twine nine times and registered a pair of hat-tricks. Over the current month, St-Denis has 11 goals, which trails only Rouyn-Noranda’s Rémi Gélinas (13 goals) in the QMJHL for January. Speaking of scoring goals, Washington Capitals prospect Eriks Mateiko (19G-5A in 29 GP) seems to be fitting in just fine with his new club. Over the last week, Mateiko recorded two multi-goal games, giving him five goals in six games since joining the Océanic on January 15. This week, Rimouski will look to improve on its 16-2-1-1 home record when it welcomes the Tigres, the Phoenix, and the Remparts to Colisée Financière Sun Life.
Games this week: vs. Victoriaville (Jan. 30), vs. Sherbrooke (Jan. 31), vs. Québec (Feb. 2)
6. Windsor Spitfires (OHL): Having secured a pair of victories last week against Sarnia (4-3 OT) and Brampton (5-2), the Windsor Spitfires (33-10-2-1) continue to hold down the No. 6 spot in this week’s rankings. The Spitfires’ 33 wins this season rank fourth in the CHL, trailing only London (37), Everett (34), and Moncton (34). Windsor has also registered an impressive 18-2-0-1 record on home ice, arguably the best of any club in the OHL. Their 18 wins at home in 2024-25 are ranked tied for first in the OHL, while their two regulation losses at the WFCU Centre are tied for the fewest of any club in the CHL. During their two games over the last seven days, 21-year-old defenceman Tnias Mathurin (6G-12A in 38 GP) played a big role in both victories. The Spits’ blueliner first scored a pair of goals against Sarnia including the overtime winner on Friday night, before tallying three assists and earning the game’s first star against Brampton two nights later. Meanwhile, Washington Capitals prospect Ilya Protas (32G-42A in 41 GP) and Los Angeles Kings prospect Liam Greentree (33G-46A in 45 GP) continued their productive seasons. Protas tallied points in both games last week, as he now has 13 points (6G-7A) over his last four contests and ranks third in the OHL in scoring with 74 points. While Greentree co-led the team with three points (1G-2A) in Sunday’s 5-2 win against Brampton to boost his 2024-25 total to 79 points – the second-best mark in the OHL. Windsor will look to boost its home record this week as it carries on a seven-game homestand with contests against Flint and No.1-ranked London.
7. Calgary Hitmen (WHL): With three straight victories over the last seven days, the Calgary Hitmen (28-12-3-2) have moved up one spot to a season-best No. 7 this week. The Hitmen now have a point in five straight games (4-0-0-1) and they have put together a strong month of January. Since January 1, the Hitmen have won 10 of 12 games (10-1-0-1), only dropping a pair of games to the No. 9-ranked Medicine Hat Tigers. Over that dozen games, Calgary has averaged 4.08 goals per game, as they have tallied four goals or more on nine occasions during January. Supporting that offensive explosion has been none other than 2025 NHL Draft prospect Ben Kindel (27G-51A in 44 GP). Kindel led all WHL scorers over the last week by registering 10 points (3G-7A). The latter included outings of five points (2G-3A) against Moose Jaw and four points (0G-4A) against Red Deer, as Kindel now holds a share of the WHL scoring lead with 78 points this season. Since returning from the holiday break on December 27, no WHL skater has more points than Kindel’s 32 points (8G-24A) over that stretch. Meanwhile, the Hitmen also enjoyed a big boost this past weekend when Ottawa Senators prospect Carter Yakemchuk (15G-22A in 33 GP) returned to Calgary’s lineup. Having missed seven games with a lower-body injury, Yakemchuk was a force for the club on Sunday, as he registered a goal and two assists in Calgary’s big 6-1 victory over Red Deer. This week, Yakemchuk and the Hitmen will look to keep the good times rolling when they face the Oil Kings for a pair of contests, before welcoming a strong Lethbridge Hurricanes team to Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday.
8. Spokane Chiefs (WHL): Having split a pair of games against a pair of teams ranked in the CHL Top 10 over the last week, the Spokane Chiefs (30-16-0-0) come in at No. 8 in this week’s rankings. The Chiefs got things started off the right way by securing an impressive 3-2 victory over the No.2-ranked Everett Silvertips, before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 loss to the No.9-ranked Medicine Hat Tigers. Swedish forward Rasmus Ekström (19G-18A in 43 GP) registered a point in both games, including a pair of goals (along with the game-winner) against Everett. Playing in his second season in the WHL with the Chiefs, Ekström has set new personal bests for goals (19), assists (18) and points (37) in a single season. Meanwhile, the line of Seattle Kraken prospect Berkly Catton (20G-44A in 35 GP), Washington Capitals prospect Andrew Cristall (31G-47A in 35 GP), and 20-year-old forward Shea Van Olm (34G-27A in 44 GP) continued to do its thing. Catton and Cristall registered a point in both games last week as Cristall ranks tied for first in WHL scoring with 78 points, while Catton sits tied for 10th. As for Van Olm, the 20-year-old tallied his WHL-leading 34th goal of the season in Spokane’s loss to the Tigers. Although they hold a 6-4-0-0 record over their last 10 contests, the Chiefs come into this week having won four of their last six. They’ll aim to improve on that mark when they host the Royals on Friday, before traveling for games against the No.2-ranked Silvertips and Giants to cap off their weekend.
9. Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL): Having strung together nine wins in a row, the longest active winning streak in the CHL, the Medicine Hat Tigers are back in the CHL Top-10 Rankings for the first time since October 22. The 2024-25 campaign has been an up-and-down journey for the Tigers. Having started the year as the CHL’s No.1-ranked team out of the preseason, Medicine Hat struggled out of the gate. Following a loss to the Oil Kings on December 8, the Tigers ranked eighth in the WHL’s overall standings despite leading their division. However, from that point on, Medicine Hat has won 14 wins of their last 17 games (14-2-1-0), and skyrocketed to second in the WHL’s overall standings. During their nine-game winning streak, the Tigers have been getting it done at both ends of the ice. They are scoring an average of 5.33 goals per game, while only allowing 1.88 goals per game having allowed two goals or fewer on seven occasions over the streak. Part of the latter can be attributed to the play of Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Harrison Meneghin (11-8-0-0 record, 2.49 GAA, .901 SV% & 2 SO in 21 GP), who has won each of his last five starts and earned WHL Goaltender of the Week honours in consecutive weeks. In terms of scoring, 2026 NHL Draft prospect Gavin McKenna (21G-57A in 38 GP) has led the team throughout this current winning streak with 18 points (2G-16A) over his last eight games. That stretch has helped McKenna capture a share of the WHL’s scoring lead with 78 points. Meanwhile, Minnesota Wild prospect Ryder Ritchie (17G-17A in 32 GP) seems to have found his stride since returning from the holiday break. Specifically, since December 28, Ritchie has amassed 18 points (10G-8A) in 13 games, having found the scoresheet in all but two of those contests. Ritchie and the Tigers will look to carry that momentum into this week as they head out to the U.S. Pacific Northwest to face the Wild, No.2-ranked Silvertips, Winterhawks, and Thunderbirds. Fans can catch the CHL Top-10 showdown between the Silvertips and Tigers live at 7:05 p.m. PT for free tomorrow on the WHL’s YouTube channel and WHL Live on CHL TV as part of the WHL’s Wednesday Night in The Dub program.
10. Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL): Having earned a point in all three of their games last week, including a pair of wins against Val-d’Or (5-1) and Victoriaville (8-1), the Drummondville Voltigeurs (30-11-2-3) continue to hold down the final spot of the CHL Top-10 Rankings for a second week in a row. Having entered last week with four wins in 10 games, the Voltigeurs flipped the script by winning two of three over the last seven days – giving them a 5-4-0-1 record over their last 10. As they went 2-0-0-1 last week, the goals came by fast and furiously for the Voltigeurs, who potted a total of 18 goals (an average of six goals per game) over those three contests. A big part of their offensive production was Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Ethan Gauthier (20G-28A in 33 GP) who led the Voltigeurs with eight points (3G-5A) last week. The latter included Gauthier matching a career-high five points (1G-4A), which he registered during Drummondville’s 8-1 win over the Tigres. Meanwhile, captain Luke Woodworth (14G-51A in 44 GP) collected six points over the week, including five helpers as he continues to lead the QMJHL with 51 assists this season. Additionally, by registering two goals and two assists in three games last week, Buffalo Sabres prospect Simon-Pier Brunet (6G-19A in 43 GP) earned himself a spot on the QMJHL’s Team of the Week. Specifically, against Victoriaville, Brunet scored twice and added an assist as he was named the game’s first star. This week, the Voltigeurs will look to build on those positive results when they travel to Shawinigan for their lone game of the week.
Games this week: @ Shawinigan (Jan. 31)
