Titan wins fifth straight at home
Bathurst, NB, Thursday,November 12th, 2015 – After a few day’s rest, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan were back in action as they played host to the Halifax Mooseheads, in what was a critical game for both teams in the standings. Undeniably, with only two points separating the two opponents for a playoff spot, this was a four point game like few others. And after an energy packed night, the Titan skated away with a four to three victory.
Timo Meier of the Mooseheads come out firing on all cylinders, scoring the first two goals of the game, his fifth and sixth of the season. But the Titan showed exemplary resiliency in roaring back with four consecutive goals, including the last three being scored during the final 20 minutes. Indeed, fans in attendance witnessed Jeffrey Viel, Christophe Boivin, Antoine Morand and Mark Simpson light the lamp, giving the home team a lead it would not relinquish. Danny Moynihan completed the scoring for Halifax, whom fell short in their own comeback attempt.
Mooseheads goaltender Éric Brassard was stellar between the pipes, making 30 saves, while Reilly Pickard went save for save at the other end of the ice, turning away 24 shots.
Sky is the limit
Making his return to the Titan line-up after participating in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, Titan forward Antoine Morand was spectacular, showing that he had not lost a step in the tournament, and may even have found an extra one. To be sure, Morand picked up an assist on each of his team’s first two goals, before lighting the lamp himself, at the time giving the Titan its first lead of the game.
With such a tour de force, Morand was an obvious choice as the first star of the game.
An alert play by Lisoway
In the last minute of play, while the Mooseheads were in the offensive zone trying to even the score, Quintin Lisoway of the Titan saw an opponent standing at the mouth of the goal. And rather than leave him unattended, Lisoway back checked with the heart of a champion, reaching his opponent just in time to prevent the Halifax threat from receiving a pass.
And while this play may not appear on the scoreboard, there is little doubt as to the importance of Lisoway’s play, combining the alertness of a veteran to the hustle of a rookie.
A jump to 15th
With this victory, the Titan have now jumped to fifth in their division and 15th overall, only one point behind the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, and four behind the Sherbrooke Phoenix.
$4,000 on the line at the next home game
With a crowd coming in below 2,500 fans, the winning seat prize went up to $4,000 for the next home game.
And that game will be played tomorrow night, on Friday, November 13th at 7pm against Mason McDonald and the Charlottetown Islanders. Furthermore, Marc Melanson & The Bandits will be on hand to offer a live musical performance before the game and during intermissions.
