The 2022-23 Offensive Rookie of the Year revealed
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has just announced the winner of this year’s Michel-Bergeron Trophy. Named after the former Trois-Rivières Draveurs head coach, who later went on to coach the Quebec Nordiques and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League, this award recognizes the league’s top offensive rookie.
This year’s winner is Maxim Massé of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. During his first year in the league, the Rimouski native scored 29 goals and added 33 assists in 65 regular season games. He finished second on his team in points and was instrumental in helping the Sags’ finish in fourth position of the Eastern Conference standings.
Massé was selected in the first round of the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft presented by Fenplast and proved to be an excellent addition to the team. He scored six power play goals and compiled six game-winning goals, making him a vital part of Chicoutimi’s success this season.
The Michel-Bergeron Trophy has been awarded to many QMJHL Hall of Famers over the years, including Pat LaFontaine, Martin Lapointe, and Vincent Lecavalier.
