Team Daigle remains undefeated to lift the 2025 QMJHL Cup!
This 2025 QMJHL Cup was tightly contested right up to the very end! Liam Armit scored the winning goal on a breakaway with 12:46 to go in the third period, and Team Daigle defeated Team Savage 3-2 to take top honors in the tournament on Saturday afternoon at Boisbriand’s Centre d’Excellence Sports Rousseau.
Team Daigle was dominant throughout the tournament, maintaining a perfect record in four outings all while scoring 26 goals, seven more than the following team. In the Final alone, the Blue team held a clear 56-27 advantage in shots on goal.
As for Team Savage, it ended the competition with two wins and two losses, both at the expense of Team Daigle.
In addition to Armit, Benjamin Veitch and Emrick Nolette-Robidoux also found the back of the net for the winning squad, both scoring in a 2:16 span at the end of the first period. For the Red team, Jayden Napon scored twice. He netted his first of the game at 11:25 of the opening frame and later cut the lead to 3-2 just 27 seconds after Armit’s goal.
Rebecca Babiak and Alex-André Perron’s men tried everything and even scored the first goal of the game thanks to Napon, but the more time went on, the more Team Daigle managed to control the puck in the offensive zone. Sam Berthiaume kept the Reds in the game with a few key saves, and winger Christopher Kelly helped him out by blocking some big shots on the penalty kill.
But the Blues’ hard work eventually paid off. Veitch first made it 1-1 with a magnificent backhand shot into the top corner. Then, Nolette-Robidoux threaded the needle for his fourth of the QMJHL Cup with a minute left in the opening frame to put Team Daigle ahead 2-1.
Physical throughout the tournament, Team Savage’s players found their match in the second period as Team Daigle continued to apply pressure and finish their checks. Both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the middle stanza.
In the third period, it was James Scantlebury who made his presence felt. He served up a magnificent pass to Armit, with whom he showed great chemistry throughout the event, before seeing the latter beat Berthiaume to extend the Blues’ lead to 3-1 with 12:46 to go in regulation. Napon then cut the lead to one goal less than 30 seconds later on the power play.
Team Savage worked hard to level the score, but Jase MacPherson (25 saves) made an important save in the dying minutes to preserve Team Daigle’s lead.
Among the champions, Nolette-Robidoux, Veitch and Tanner Hayden all finished tied for the QMJHL Cup scoring lead with seven points in four games. For Team Savage, Napon’s two goals put him in the Top 10 scorers with five points. His teammate, Alexy Lafleur, finished with the same number of points thanks to his two goals and three assists during the tournament.
