Road to the QMJHL Entry Draft | April 2023 Prospects
Owen Conrad – Defenseman – Weeks Major Midgets
Owen has a rare combination of size, speed and skating ability and can make an impact on the game at any moment. He is dominant in both ends of the ice and has played a pivotal role in leading his team to the national championships.
At 6’2’’, 192lbs, he is hard to knock off the puck and tough to beat in the corners. His long reach and strong skating also make him difficult to beat in one-on-one situations. He makes crisp passes and is excellent at distributing the puck, but never hesitates to jump up and join the rush. Very poised, Owen let’s the play develop in front of him, which has helped him run the power play and generate offensive chances. With very few weaknesses in his game, he is a complete player who can play in all situations.

Donald Hickey – Goaltender – Cornwall Colts
Donald Hickey played so well at the start of his U18 season that the Colts Junior ‘A’ program has called him up on occasion. An extremely athletic goaltender, Hickey amazes by being the guy who can make the impossible save.
Known as a fierce competitor, he is very dedicated to his craft and passionately works on his game at all times. He loves to battle and loves the challenge of having to play in the biggest moments of the biggest games.

Kyan Labbé – Goaltender – Magog Cantonniers
Kyan is a very energetic and dynamic goalkeeper in front of his net. His compete level is very high. Although he guards his goal mostly based on instincts, he will need to continue working to refine his overall technique.
Because of his size, he will need to work on his reading of the game in order to be ready on secondary chances. Even though he was in his rookie year at the U18 level, he still put up good numbers this season with 11 wins and a solid .911% save percentage.

Nathan Lecompte – Forward – Châteauguay Grenadiers
In his second season at the U18 level, expectations were high for Lecompte after he finished ninth in league in scoring at age 14. With many challenges ahead of him, he passed the test with flying colors. Playing alongside new line mates, the start to his season was different than the last one. Despite this, he elevated his game to become an effective player in all three zones.
A hard worker, he competed against the best opposing lines night after night. His offensive game improved throughout the campaign and he ended up winning the scoring title. There’s no doubt we will hear his name quickly at the next draft in Sherbrooke.

Olivier Metcalfe – Forward – Saint-Eustache Vikings
Olivier is a forward who does not have the biggest frame but is still physically strong. He is a complete and hard-working player who plays well on 200 feet. The Vikings’ #8 got his share of points this year thanks to his good skills with the puck and his excellent shot. The center is also able to feed his teammates well thanks to his good vision and offensive creativity.
All of these attributes have allowed him to get some playing time on the power play, as well as shorthanded this season. Although he is solid on his skates, Olivier will need to continue to work on his explosion and skating if he wants to be dominant at the next level.

Nathan is a forward with a very good skating stride and quick hands. He has been a great offensive presence for the Riverains this year, finishing second on the team with 15 goals and 32 points in 41 games.
With a lot of offensive qualities, Quinn is a player to watch ahead of the next QMJHL Entry Draft. However, he will have to improve his defensive involvement if he wants to become a more complete player at the next level.

Jordan Shaw – Forward – Kensington Wild
Jordan is a two-way forward that can play either center or right wing. He has good instincts and has shown the ability to contribute offensively. He has good puck handling skills and a quick release but can also play well defensively and kill penalties. Jordan has shown flashes of his ability, but not on consistent level.
While he was a highly touted player at the start of the season, he did not perform to the level that was expected of him. He will need to play with more intensity on every shift in order to reach the next level. Jordan remains an intriguing prospect with very high upside in terms of potential.

Philippe is a very talented winger who excels at finding open space in tight areas. He is dangerous in the pay zone thanks to his accurate shot that he releases quickly. Veilleux also won a bronze medal with Team Quebec at this winter’s Canada Games.
Intelligent and very agile on his skates, Philippe has a great understanding of the game. He makes good decisions instead of forcing plays and, with his strong puck control, he is able to generate offense for both himself and his teammates. He’s the kind of player that makes others around him better.
