REGULAR SEASON SUMMARY
This year’s edition of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies heads into the playoffs riding high on a four game winning streak and an overall record of 6-2-2-0 in its last 10 games played. The Huskies have relied on strong defensive play and the outstanding efforts from their goaltender Samuel Harvey, who was invited to Team Canada’s World Junior selection camp earlier in the year. They finished the season with 179 goals against, which was good enough for second best in the league. Their strong play at both ends of the ice this season can be seen in their positive goal differential of +60. A huge reason for their strong goal differential has been their special teams performance this season; they have the sixth ranked power play that converted on 21% of their opportunities, and the fourth ranked penalty kill that finished the season at 83.2%. For many teams who plan on contending, the trade period is a huge opportunity to bolster their roster and the Huskies were a team that were active at the deadline. They managed to pick up over-aged defenseman Will Thompson from the Gatineau Olympiques, which has managed to solidify their already strong blue line. On the ice this season, they have been led by offensive contributions from forwards Peter Abbandonato and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, who both had career seasons with 76 points and 75 points respectively. However, the team’s MVP this season has undoubtedly been Harvey, who finished first in the Q in the goals against average category with a 2.10 GAA and first in save percentage with his .930%.
