REGULAR SEASON SUMMARY
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan put together their best regular season in 16 years. Their 43-18-8-2 record – good for 96 total points – placed them second overall in the “Q”. Second best was a recurring theme for the Titan’s special teams units as they placed in that same position on both the powerplay (25.4%) and penalty kill (84.3%). Acadie-Bathurst finished in a three-way tie for third in the league with Halifax and Victoriaville by scoring 270 goals, while their 183 goals against earned them sole possession of third in that department. The Titan peaked at the perfect time, winning eight straight between February 23rd and March 13th. This streak played a pivotal role in Acadie-Bathurst’s successful capture of the Maritimes Division title for 2017-18. The longest losing streak the club endured was a mere four game skid in late September and early October. The potent Titan offense came by committee, with six players notching 20 or more goals on the season, including a team leading 42 from left winger Mitchell Balmas. Team captain Jeffrey Truchon-Viel chipped in with 39 tallies, while defenseman Olivier Galipeau led all rearguards with 25 goals and 74 points. Galipeau and Balmas were two key acquisitions made by the Titan during the season, arriving in deals with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and Gatineau Olympiques, respectively. Also making their way to the Chaleur region were center German Rubtsov, also from Chicoutimi, goaltender Evan Fitzpatrick from the Sherbrooke Phoenix and center Samuel Asselin from the Shawinigan Cataractes.
