Our 20’s – Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
Throughout the summer, the QMJHL will summarize the journey of its 20-year-old players. Today, those of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies: Antonin Verreault, Alex Carr and Ty Higgins.
Antonin Verreault, left wing
The second overall pick by the Gatineau Olympiques in 2020, Verreault completed his junior career with the title of Offensive Rookie of the Year (Michel-Bergeron Trophy) and a spot on the All-Rookie Team in 2020-2021, a scoring championship and a spot on the First All-Star Team in 2023-2024 and a spot on the second constellation in 2024-2025. Not bad! Verreault played his first three seasons in Gatineau, helping the Olympiques reach the semifinals in 2023. But it was really in Rouyn-Noranda, over the past two seasons, that he exploded, with 192 points (73-119) in 131 games! A total that ranks him 17th in Huskies history. Author of 296 points (103-193) in 256 games in the QMJHL, Verreault will play for Quinnipiac University next season.
Alex Carr, defenceman
In his fourth full season with the Huskies, Carr had 45 points (6-39) in 62 games, ranking him eighth among QMJHL defencemen in scoring. Constantly pitted against the opposition’s best forwards, he nevertheless had a +29 differential, the 10th highest among defensemen in the league. His brilliance earned him the Kevin-Lowe Trophy as the QMJHL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Defenceman, as well as a spot on the Second All-Star Team. Carr, who will continue his career at the University of New Hampshire, finishes his time in Rouyn-Noranda sixth on the team among defencemen in games played (213) and seventh in points (107).
Ty Higgins, defenceman
In his fourth season in the QMJHL, Higgins set career highs with 19 goals, 48 assists and 67 points in 63 games. He led all defensemen in points, goals, power-play goals (9), game-winning goals (4) and shots (235), while finishing second in helpers and power-play assists (26). All of this earned him to be a finalist for the Émile-Bouchard Trophy, given to the Defenceman of the Year, and earned a spot on the league’s second All-Star Team. The d-man who played his first 122 games in the QMJHL with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan finishes his junior career with 156 points (45-111) in 208 games. The Ontarian will play in the NCAA with Bowling Green State University next year.
