Maxim Massé named QMJHL Rookie of the Year
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced this morning the identity of its 2022-23 Rookie of the Year. As usual, the two finalists are the recipients of the Michel-Bergeron Trophy (Offensive Rookie of the Year) and the Raymond-Lagacé Trophy (Defensive Rookie of the Year).
Therefore, this season’s nominees are winger Maxim Massé of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and defenseman Marcus Kearsey of the Charlottetown Islanders.
This season’s honor goes to Chicoutimi Saguenéens forward, Maxim Massé. The third overall pick in the last QMJHL Entry Draft, who recently celebrated his 17th birthday on April 7, showed off his tremendous potential throughout his first QMJHL campaign.
Playing in all 68 games for the Sags, Massé was able to finish atop all league rookies in both goals (29) and points (65) this season. The Rimouski native also showed great discipline as he ended the campaign with only eight penalty minutes.
The right-winger finished with the second most points on his team, scoring six game-winning goals and collecting twenty of his points while on the power play. The undeniable impact of Massé’s addition helped the Saguenéens finish fourth in the Eastern Conference standings this season.
