Islanders continue to score in win over Titan
The Charlottetown Islanders finished off a big four game week with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon over their divisional rivals, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
Francois Beauchemin (38th, unassisted) opened the scoring just 1:25 into the game. Alex Dostie (20th, assisted by Daniel Sprong and Francois Beauchemin) made it 2-0 at 7:58.
With less than four minutes left in the first, the Titan struck. They scored two in less than 15 seconds (Adam Holwell and Rodrigo Abols) to tie the game.
In the second period, the Islanders would come alive.
Daniel Sprong (8th, assisted by Guillaume Brisebois and Nicolas Meloche) scored on the power play at 6:47 to give the Islanders the 3-2 lead.
21 seconds later, Pascal Aquin (13, unassisted) gave the Isles a 2-goal lead.
Alex Dostie scored his second of the game (21st, assisted by Filip Chlapik and Daniel Sprong) at 12:48 and the Islanders weren’t finished yet.
Kameron Kielly (27th, assisted by Carl Neill and Filip Chlapik) scored on the power play to make it 6-2 at the finish of the second period.
There was no scoring in the third period.
Matthew Welsh was in goal for the Islanders and made 41 of 43 saves for his 19th win of the season.
This wraps up a 4 and 0 week for the Islanders. They had a 7-1 win vs Val-d’Or on Tuesday, an 8-5 win on Thursday in Moncton, and a 13-2 win vs Moncton on Friday.
The Isles were led by Filip Chlapik (3 goals, 9 assists), Daniel Sprong (4 goals, 6 assists), Francois Beauchemin (6 goals, 4 assists) and Kameron Kielly (6 goals and 3 assists) in the four games.
The Islanders have a quieter upcoming week. They are at home on Friday vs Halifax and Saturday vs Drummondville.
