Islanders Captain Brett Budgell launches “Fill The Net Food Drive”
Calling all Islanders! Charlottetown Islanders captain Brett Budgell needs your help to “fill the net” for The Upper Room Food Bank this holiday season.
Brett Budgell’s Fill The Net Food Drive campaign will launch on Wednesday, December 1st, and run until Saturday, December 18th. Anyone who wishes to donate will have the chance to do so during regular business hours (9 am to 5 pm) or at one of the Charlottetown Islanders four December home games before Christmas. Items can be dropped off in the lobby of the Eastlink Centre.
“Food insecurity is an important topic to me and I have loved my three years volunteering with The Upper Room. I became a volunteer to do my part to help the fight against hunger. After witnessing the amazing hard work and dedication of the volunteers at The Upper Room, I wanted to help raise awareness for this organization” commented Budgell.
Upper Room Food Bank client numbers continue to increase. Last year in October, they experienced a 21% increase, and this year they are up another 39%. Their soup kitchen also saw 100 more clients in the month of October. The Upper Room is a non-profit charity that relies exclusively on donations of food and funds.
“For those who are not aware, the soup kitchen serves meals every day of the year! They offer lunch from 11-12 pm every day, and supper from 4-5 pm” said Budgell. “I would love it if Islanders fans would consider supporting The Upper Room this holiday season with a food or financial donation.”
All fans who donate to Brett Budgell’s Fill The Net Food Drive will have a chance to win a signed jersey and a signed stick from the Islanders captain.
