Cape Breton Eagles Announce Joey Haddad as Assistant GM of Business Operations & Brand Ambassador
The Cape Breton Eagles are proud to announce Joey Haddad as the hockey club’s new Assistant General Manager of Business Operations & Brand Ambassador.
Haddad starred for the Eagles as a player in the 2007-08 & 2008-09 seasons, recording back-to-back 30 goal seasons. Following his time in the QMJHL, he earned his Master of Business Administration from Cardiff Metropolitan University in Cardiff, Wales, while playing for the EIHL’s Cardiff Devils.
“It is an absolute honour and a privilege to be joining the Cape Breton Eagles organization, where I had two seasons that were were very important in my early hockey career,” said Sydney-native Haddad. “I grew up here in Sydney idolizing this team and its players, and to join the business management side of this team is something truly special. When my wife Kirsten (Morrison) & I decided to move home, we were looking forward to being involved in the community.”
Over the last 16 months since returning to the island, Haddad has operated his own business as a certified home inspector, in addition to working in property management. Haddad also spent the 2022-23 hockey season as the head coach of the Sydney Mitsubishi Rush of the Nova Scotia U18 Major Hockey League.
His foray into coaching came after a successful professional playing career of 12 years. After signing a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, he appeared in 64 AHL games and 294 ECHL games. During his time in the ECHL, he captained both the Gwinnett Gladiators (2013-14) and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (2020-21, his final year of pro hockey). Between the two captaincies, his six seasons in Cardiff included two EIHL playoff championships and an appearance on the league’s first all-star team.
Combining his hockey playing experience, education, business experience, and strong connection to the Cape Breton Eagles, he aspires to help the organization reach new heights. “I look forward to making an immediate impact for the organization in our community through increased brand awareness, along with some new and exciting opportunities for our current and potential advertising and sponsorship partners,” said the newest member of the Eagles staff.
“Having Joey on board with the Eagles Business Team is exciting news,” says GM of Hockey Operations Sylvain Couturier. “When I met with Joey, I felt right away that he would be an asset and a great fit for the organization. Being an alumni, with his hockey life experience and his great personality, he will definitely be a great ambassador for the Eagles. I am happy that I will be working alongside him and make this organization a successful one on and off the ice.”
Upon his arrival in the Eagles front office, Haddad looks back fondly on coaching last season. “I would like to thank the Sydney Mitsubishi Rush Organization and its players for an amazing experience last season,” said their now former coach. “The Rush and I have been working closely to create a solution for the team, and this will be a very exciting year for the Rush organization.”
