Baie-Comeau Drakkar wins the Jean-Rougeau Trophy
By virtue of its 4-1 victory over the Quebec Remparts on Wednesday night, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar confirmed its QMJHL regular-season championship, synonymous with the Jean-Rougeau Trophy.
The Drakkar now has a record of 50-11-2-1 for 103 points. Even if they win their last five games, the Drummondville Voltigeurs (43-14-5-1), second in the overall standings, could only manage 102 points.
This is the third Jean-Rougeau Trophy in the Drakkar’s history, following the regular season titles of 2003 and 2014.
If the club wins its final four games, the Drakkar could finish the regular season with 111 points, which would tie the 1975-76 Sherbrooke Castors for 10th-most in QMJHL history.
The current Drakkar team record of 108 points dates back to the 2002-03 campaign.
Jean-François Grégoire’s team will play its last four games against Quebec, Sherbrooke (twice) and Drummondville.
