Julien Béland recognized as Scholastic Player of the Year
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League continued to reveal the winners of the 2023 Golden Puck Awards by announcing today the recipient of the Marcel-Robert Trophy.
Awarded to the QMJHL Scholastic Player of the Year, this distinction is given annually to the member of the circuit who best combines academic success with solid performances on the ice.
The QMJHL announced early last month the list of candidates from the 18 franchises that are nominated for the 2022-23 Marcel-Robert Trophy. From those nominees, three players were selected as finalists: Julien Béland of the Rimouski Océanic, Mathieu Cataford of the Halifax Mooseheads, and Maxime Pellerin of the Victoriaville Tigres.
An independent selection committee then interviewed the three finalists on April 12 to evaluate their academic and sport records, as well as their general knowledge of current events and their critical thinking skills.
Once those meetings had ended, the committee determined that the winner of the 2022-23 Marcel-Robert Trophy is Rimouski Océanic forward, Julien Béland.
