Hat trick for Groulx! Mooseheads 2 Wildcats 7
Benoit-Olivier Groulx netted his first Wildcats’ hat trick as part of a four-point game against his old team, leading Moncton to a 7-2 victory over the Halifax Mooseheads, Monday at Avenir Centre.
Gabriel Fortier, Jeremy McKenna, Alexander Khovanov and Elliot Desnoyers also scored while Jakob Pelletier and Jordan Spence added two assists each.
Groulx opened the scoring nearly six minutes into the game, but the Mooseheads countered more than three minutes later to tie the game 1-1.
Halifax scored on a two-man advantage three minutes after that to take a 2-1 lead.
But Groulx redirected home the tying goal on a Moncton power play to make it 2-2 after twenty minutes.
Fortier’s goal came shorthanded just 37 seconds into the second period.
McKenna and Groulx also found the net in the middle frame to give Moncton a 5-2 lead after two periods.
Khovanov and Desnoyers scored two minutes apart midway through the third period to wrap up the scoring.
Goalie Dakota Lund-Cornish earned the win with 25 saves.
