WEDNESDAY READ: Bathurst winning streak, five Titan among league leaders

The Titan continue to stay within the top 10 across the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. Bathurst is seventh overall in league standings as of Tuesday morning.
Moncton (16-3-2-0) is first overall with 34 points, followed by Drummondville (16-5-1-1) in second with 34 and Rouyn-Noranda (14-3-2-3) in third with 33 points. Baie-Comeau (15-6-1-0), Rimouski (15-6-0-1), and Chicoutimi (13-4-2-3) are in the fourth through sixth spots, respectively and each have 31 points. Bathurst (14-7-0-0) takes the seventh spot with 28 points, followed by Blainville-Boisbriand (12-8-1-0) in eighth with 25. Shawinigan (12-9-0-0) and Sherbrooke (11-9-0-2) are in the ninth and tenth spots, each with 24 points.
Moncton is first in the Maritimes Division, followed by Bathurst in second, Saint John (22) in third, Cape Breton (21) in fourth, Halifax (21) in fifth and Charlottetown (14) in sixth.
Three straight wins for Bathurst
The Titan is on a three-game winning streak. Between Nov. 10-16th, the Titan beat the Halifax Mooseheads 3-0, the Charlottetown Islanders 2-1 and the Saint John Sea Dogs 2-1.
Weekend wins
On Friday, Nov. 15 the Titan beat the Charlottetown Islanders 2-1 at the Eastlink Centre. Following a scoreless first and second periods, Titan forwards Tyson Goguen and Dawson Sharkey found the back of the net to bring the game 2-0. Jude Herron netted the first and only goal for the Islanders in the final frame as well.
Mathis Langevin won the first Star of the Night (saving 28 of 29 shots on net), followed by Sharkey with the second star with a goal and an assist.
Saturday night at home Bathurst beat Saint John 2-1 in front of an electric, roaring home crowd at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
Tyler Wood scored his first goal in the Q in the first period to give the home side a 1-0 lead early on, before Saint John’s Tyler Peddle tied the game in the third. Louis-François Bélanger netted the game winning goal on the third to secure the win for the Titan.
Joshua Fleming earned the first Star of the Game for saving 28 of 29 shots, and Bélanger was named the third star of the night.
Fleming second in league wins
Fleming is second overall in wins for league leaders with 12, and one-point shy of Baie-Comeau’s Lucas Beckman, who is in first with 13. Moncton’s Jacob Steinman and Rouyn-Noranda’s Samuel Meloche are in third and fourth spots, respectively with 12 points and Drummondville’s Riley Mercer is in fifth with 11 wins.
Fleming is fifth overall in goals against average (2.28). Steinman’s in the top spot (1.97), Mercer in second (2.06), Rimouski’s William Lacelle in third (2.10) and Beckman (2.23) in fourth.
In save percentage, Fleming is in the third spot (0.927), while Mercer is in first (0.938), Steinman in second (0.931), Beckman in fourth (0.922) and Lacelle (0.921) in fifth.
St-Onge second in short handed goals
Mathieu St-Onge continues to anchor the top spot in short handed goals, with two. Natan Éthier (Shawinigan), Angelo Fullerton (Cape Breton), Egor Goriunov (Charlottetown) and Mavrick Lachance (Sherbrooke) are in the second through fifth spots, respectively each with one.
Huggan second in winning goals
Titan Captain Colby Huggan is second in the league for game winning goals at four. Moncton’s Caleb Desnoyers is in first with five, while Rouyn-Noranda’s Ty Higgins takes the third spot with four. Maxime Coursol (Rimouski) and Félix Lacerte (Shawinigan) are in fourth and fifth with three each.
Titan defencemen crack top five in penalty minutes
Blueliner Harry Clements and forward, Sharkey have among the top five in the league for penalty minutes. Sharkey is in second place with 32, and Clements is fourth with the same amount. Cape Breton’s Joseph Henneberry takes the top spot with 35, while Sherbrooke’s Sydney Gagnon and Florent Houle are in the third and fifth spots, with 32 and 31.
Titan Tournament
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan was busy this weekend between games and supporting Bathurst Minor Hockey Association’s Titan Tournament. Titan held ceremonial puck drops Thursday evening for the opening games of the tournament and presented the medals Sunday afternoon during the championship games.

On the road
The Titan is away this week for their first road swing of the season through Quebec. Bathurst will faceoff against Sherbrooke, Blainville-Boisbriand and Victoriaville Thursday-through-Sunday. The Phoenix are 10th in the league, Armada in eighth and Victoriaville (8-13-1-1) has 18 points in 15th place.
Next home game
Bathurst will host the Cape Breton Eagles in back-to-back games Nov. 29 and Nov. 30 at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. Puck drop is 7 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, for those games.
