PRESS RELEASE: Golf classic raises thousands for foundation and minor hockey
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan is pleased to announce the 2024 Titan Golf Classic raised more than $22 000 for the Titan Foundation and Bathurst Minor Hockey Association. The classic was held July 19 at Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club where 24 teams participated in the event.
The annual golf classic is a fundraiser for and partnership between the Titan and the local minor hockey association. The proceeds from the event will directly support youth sports, health, and education programs in the region.
“We would like to thank everyone who made our annual golf tournament such a resounding success. From the Titan alumni, players and staff to local businesses and groups who participated in the tournament. BMHA’s Fundraising & Tournament Director, Jason Sirois and minor hockey volunteers, Gowan Brae, our sponsors, Titan volunteers and everyone in-between. It was a fun day, and we are happy to once again raise money for our community,” said Titan Director of Marketing, Erin White.
During the tournament either a Titan employee, alumni, current player or prospect competed as the fourth player of every team. This meant every participating team in our tournament had the opportunity to play 18-holes of golf with a member of the Titan organization.
The 2024 NHL guest alumni was Bruno Gervais.
Gervais – a former NHL defenceman and Titan captain – was drafted 16th overall in the first round of the 2001 draft by the Titan. He competed for Acadie-Bathurst from the 2001-02 seasons until 2003-04. Gervais made the jump from junior to the American Hockey League by the start of the 2004-05 season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. The following season he would split his time between the Tigers and the New York Islanders and in the following years become a full-time member of the Islanders. Throughout his NHL career Gervais competed for the Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Other alumni who attended the tournament included but were not limited to Riley Kidney (Laval Rockets/AHL), Bennett MacArthur (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins/AHL), Logan Chisholm (St. Francis Xavier University/ U Sports) and Cole Larkin (University of Prince Edward Island/U Sports).
Following an afternoon of golfing, participants enjoyed a delicious supper, followed by a live auction. Some of the auction items included but were not limited to a paid round-trip to attend the Canada vs USA game at the 2025 World Juniors and a signed Patrice Bergeron Boston Bruins jersey.
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan is thankful for the countless Titan and minor hockey volunteers, staff, players, sponsors, businesses, participants, and Gowan Brae, for all the hard work and dedication that went into making the 2024 classic such a success.
Planning the 2025 Titan Golf Classic will begin in the coming months and we cannot wait to see everyone back on the green next summer!
GO TITAN GO!
