GAME RECAP: Lounsbury scores twice as first place Wildcats defeat Titan
Coming into Friday night, the Moncton Wildcats had the best record in the Québec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. They proved why with an offensive output which saw them defeat the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 5-1.
It was Military Appreciation Night at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre. A ceremonial puck drop took place before the game to honour veterans prior to Remembrance Day. Titan players also wore poppies on their helmets.
Moncton didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard. Juraj Pekarcik converted on a back door pass from Vincent Collard for his fourth of the season, to make it 1-0. Under one minute later, Preston Lounsbury’s seventh put the road team up two. Josh Fleming kept the Titan in the game by making a highlight reel save. Pekarcik had the entire net to shoot out, but Fleming managed to get the glove out to keep the deficit at two.
After one period, Bathurst found themselves down 2-0.
Coming out of the locker room, Moncton showed no signs of slowing down. Caleb Desnoyers, a projected first-round pick in this year’s National Hockey League draft, would pot his 12th of the season past Fleming to put his team up by three. Coming into this game, the Titan powerplay was sitting in last place in the league. However, Dawson Sharkey ripped one past Jacob Steinman with the man advantage to bring the home team within two goals. Moncton would take a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Halfway through the third period, Loke Johannson shot the puck past Fleming to put the Wildcats up by three once again. Bathurst, late in the game, went on the powerplay, where Lounsbury sealed the game with an empty net shorthanded goal for his second of the game.
Moncton defeated the Titan 5-1.
With his second period goal, Sharkey was named the game’s second star.
Acadie-Bathurst will be on the road Sunday, Nov. 10 to take on the Halifax Mooseheads and Friday, Nov. 15 against the Charlottetown Islanders.
The next home game for the Titan is Saturday, Nov. 16 when they host the Saint John Sea Dogs. Tickets can be purchased at the Titan Box Office, ticketboutik.ca or over the phone. Puck drop Nov. 17 against Saint John at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre is 7 p.m.
