GAME RECAP: Bélanger’s late goal propels Titan to third straight victory
After a 2-1win Friday night on the road in Charlottetown, the Titan took down the Saint John Sea Dogs by the same score in front of one an energetic, roaring home crowd Saturday night in Bathurst.
A very loud K.C. Irving Regional Centre saw their team score first. Tyler Wood, who signed with the Titan last month, finished a beautiful move for his first career Québec Maritimes Junior Hockey League goal. The highlight reel tally put the home side up one. Feeding off the energy, the Titan took the 1-0 lead to the dressing room.
Despite numerous scoring chances for both sides, the score remained the same after 40 minutes of play. After two periods, Bathurst outshot Saint John 24-19.
Saint John wouldn’t go down without a fight.
Columbus Blue Jackets prospect, Tyler Peddle scored his eighth of the season two and a half minutes into the third period to bring the roadside back even. With the fans on their feet and intensity at its highest, the Titan pulled through. Louis-François Bélanger took a Maddex Marmulak pass before ripping the puck over Charles-Edward Gravel’s glove. Bathurst took the 2-1 head.
The Sea Dogs applied plenty of pressure with their goalie pulled. Thanks to a few outstanding saves by Josh Fleming, the Titan would hold on for a 2-1 win and their third win in a row.
Bélanger was named the third star of the game. Making 28 saves, Fleming would earn the first star.
