SAINT JOHN, N.B. <\/strong>\u2013 The Saint John Sea Dogs have acquired a 2027 first-round pick (Chicoutimi) and two 2028 second-round picks from the Val-d’Or Foreurs in exchange for forward Nolann H\u00e9roux, the team announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cNolann is a good player, and he was looking for a greater opportunity. We wanted to accommodate him in that,\u201d said Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie. \u201cFor us, this transaction was about maximizing value for the future. Chicoutimi’s first-round pick in 2027 was a critical asset, and adding two second-round picks gives us significant flexibility moving forward. Turning one player into three high-value assets puts us in a strong position moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

H\u00e9roux, 17, was a first-round pick of the Sea Dogs in the 2025 QMJHL Draft and played 39 games during the 2025-26 season, recording 13 points (three goals, 10 assists). Originally from Montreal, Que., H\u00e9roux also recorded 33 points (15 goals, 18 assists) in 26 games with the Saint-Eustache Vikings of the Quebec Under-18 AAA Hockey League.<\/p>\n

Following the trade, Saint John now owns three first-round selections in the 2027 QMJHL Draft; their own as well as the picks originally belonging to Chicoutimi and Rimouski.<\/p>\n

SAINT JOHN, N.B. <\/strong>\u2013 The Saint John Sea Dogs have acquired veteran goaltender and Buffalo Sabres prospect Samuel Meloche and a 2026 second-round pick from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, the team announced Tuesday. In return, the Huskies receive a 2026 first-round pick (Blainville-Boisbriand), 2026 second-round pick (Drummondville), 2027 second-round pick (Charlottetown), 2027 third-round pick (Rouyn-Noranda), 2028 sixth-round pick (Blainville-Boisbriand) and prospect Cole Renaud.<\/p>\n

\u201cSam brings a tremendous amount of experience to our group,\u201d said Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie. \u201cOver the past two seasons, he has appeared in 30 playoff games and has consistently raised his level of play when the stakes are highest. He\u2019s proven he can perform under pressure and is driven to compete for a championship. He\u2019ll enter next season as one of the most experienced goaltenders in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n

Originally from Les C\u00e8dres, Quebec, Meloche was a fourth-round pick of the Sabres in the 2025 NHL Draft. The six-foot-three, 199-pound netminder played 50 games for the Huskies this season going 33-13-3 with a .897 save-percentage and a 2.75 goals-against-average.<\/p>\n

“I am really excited for this new adventure,” said Meloche. “I want to win and look forward to doing my part to help the team.”<\/p>\n

In the 2026 postseason, Meloche tied for the league-lead with three shutouts along with a .905 save-percentage and a 2.52 goals-against-average, the third-best in the QMJHL, while leading Rouyn-Noranda to the semifinals of the 2026 Gilles-Courteau Trophy playoffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to welcome Oli to the Sea Dogs,\u201d said Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie. \u201cHe is a hardworking, relentless competitor with valuable playoff experience and a strong desire to win. We\u2019re excited to add him to our group, both for what he brings on the ice and for the leadership he provides off the ice.\u201d<\/p>\n

A product of St-Cyrille-de-Wendover, Que., Lemieux was originally drafted by the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the third round of the 2022 QMJHL Draft before being traded to Blainville-Boisbriand during the 2023-24 season, where he spent the past two and a half years. The five-foot-10, 173-pound left winger posted career highs in goals, assists and points this season with 38 points (16 goals, 22 assists) in 61 games.<\/p>\n

Lemieux was a key contributor for the Armada in the 2026 Gilles-Courteau Trophy playoffs, finishing with 12 points (eight goals, four assists) in 17 games and helping the club reach the third round.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really excited to join the Sea Dogs to finish my career,\u201d said Lemieux. \u201cI can\u2019t wait to join an organization that has proven, time and time again, that it knows how to win. I have tremendous confidence in this group!\u201d<\/p>\n

Lemieux comes to Saint John to complete the Jacob Beaulieu trade, which saw the Sea Dogs also acquire a first-round pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft and a 2028 sixth-round pick.<\/p>\n

SAINT JOHN, N.B. <\/strong>\u2013 The Saint John Sea Dogs have hired former captain and Sea Dogs Hall of Famer Mike Thomas as Player Mentor, the team announced Monday.<\/p>\n

“We’re excited to welcome Mike back to the team in an official capacity,” said Sea Dogs president and general manager Trevor Georgie. “Since Mike finished his playing career with the Sea Dogs, he has always stayed engaged with the team and taken a keen interest in the development of our players. Mike’s championship pedigree, leadership, and teaching background make him a valuable resource for our team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas was selected by the Sea Dogs in the fourth round of the 2006 QMJHL Entry Draft and went on to captain the Sea Dogs to their first President Cup and Memorial Cup championships in 2011. He later played professionally in both the American Hockey League and the ECHL. The New Maryland, N.B., native also won back-to-back University Cups with the UNB Reds in 2016 and 2017 while completing his teaching degree.<\/p>\n

“I am grateful for the opportunity to rejoin the Sea Dogs organization in a mentorship role, where I can give back to a program that had such an impact on my career and personal development,” said Thomas. “I am excited to support today\u2019s players as they pursue their own goals on and off the ice. I am looking forward to working with the leadership group as a trusted resource, sharing personal experiences, while encouraging a positive team-first culture that will contribute to both individual growth and team success.”<\/p>\n

Drawing on his experience as a former Sea Dogs captain, Thomas will work closely with the team’s leadership group, providing mentorship, guidance, and support throughout the season. He will also serve as a resource for players, helping foster a strong team-first culture while supporting the continued development of the club’s leadership core.<\/p>\n

As the 2026 QMJHL Draft approaches next week, the Saint John Sea Dogs currently hold two first-round picks: the fifth and 15th overall selections. Before looking ahead, let\u2019s recap the Sea Dogs\u2019 2025 draft class and see how those players are developing.<\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s draft was crucial for the Sea Dogs. Entering the draft with the first overall selection, the organization\u2019s first since 2019, director of scouting Nick Lepore and the scouting staff added a total of 11 prospects, including six players who appeared in at least one game for the Sea Dogs this season.<\/p>\n

The Sea Dogs selected Lachenaie, Que. native Alexis Joseph with the first overall pick. The six-foot-five centre finished the season tied for second in team scoring with 60 points (24 goals, 36 assists) in 54 games. In his first QMJHL playoffs, Joseph recorded three assists in four games and led the team in postseason scoring. He successfully translated his power-forward style of play from his time with Coll\u00e8ge Esther-Blondin to the QMJHL, where he has already begun attracting attention ahead of the 2027 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

With the 10th overall selection, the Sea Dogs selected another centre, Nolann H\u00e9roux, from the Saint-Eustache Vikings. The pick was acquired from the Cape Breton Eagles in the deal that sent forward Cole Burbidge to Sydney during the 2023 off-season. Despite appearing in only 39 games this season, H\u00e9roux finished with three goals and 10 assists. The five-foot-nine Montreal native has consistently thrived in competitive environments, recording four goals in three games at Canada\u2019s national under-17 development camp in 2025.<\/p>\n

In the second round, Saint John selected goaltender Jase MacPherson from the Kensington Wild with the 29th overall pick. The Montague, P.E.I., native led the Wild to a PEI championship in the New Brunswick-PEI Major U18 Hockey League this season, posting a .903 save percentage and a 3.96 goals-against average.<\/p>\n

Nine picks later, the Sea Dogs selected defenceman Everett Baldwin from the St. George\u2019s School Dragons with the 38th overall selection. The six-foot, 182-pound Rhode Island native impressed during his first QMJHL season, finishing sixth on the team in scoring with 44 points (15 goals, 29 assists) in 62 games while leading the club with 176 shots on goal. Baldwin was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round of the 2025 NHL Draft and was one of three NHL prospects on the Sea Dogs\u2019 2025-26 roster.<\/p>\n

In the fourth round, Saint John selected Jesse Dunlap with the 58th overall pick. The puck-moving offensive defenceman from Quispamsis appeared in two games with the team this season and spent the year with Rothesay Netherwood School, recording 54 points (21 goals, 33 assists) in 49 games finishing third on the team in points.<\/p>\n

The Sea Dogs were active in the sixth round, selecting forwards Finnegan Sears and Cole Renaud, along with defenceman Oskar Drabczynski. Sears suited up for the U.S. National Team Development Program posting 35 points (18 goals, 17 assists) in 55 games while Renaud lead the Saint-Hyancinthe Gaulois with 45 points (23 goals, 22 assists) in 40 games.<\/p>\n

Despite being a late round pick, Drabczynski appeared in 44 games for Saint John this season, recording two goals and eight assists while leading the team with a plus-10 rating.<\/p>\n

From Rounds 10-12, Saint John selected defenceman Julien Lacroix from the Saint-Hyacinthe Gaulois along with centre Madison Bouchard of the Jonqui\u00e8re \u00c9lites and Saint John Vito\u2019s forward Elliot Tozer.<\/p>\n

The 2026 QMJHL Draft will be held June 5-6 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n

SAINT JOHN, N.B. <\/strong>\u2013 Saint John Sea Dogs forward and University of Denver commit Alex Donovan will return to Saint John for the 2026-27 season, the team announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

Donovan, 19, is coming off an impressive rookie campaign in which he finished third in team scoring with 53 points (25 goals, 28 assists) in 63 games and tied Chris DiDomenico for the third-most goals by a rookie in franchise history.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to return for a chance to do something special,\u201d said Donovan. \u201cThe opportunity to be back with this group is exciting, and there\u2019s unfinished business. See you soon, Saint John.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Darien, Conn., native ranked eighth among QMJHL rookies in points and seventh in goals. Donovan also had four game-winning goals, the second-most by a Sea Dogs rookie.<\/p>\n

Donovan signed with Saint John last summer as a free agent after four years at Shattuck-St. Mary\u2019s, where he led his team in goals in each of his final two seasons. In 58 games during the 2024-25 season, the five-foot-11, 176-pound forward had 91 points (45 goals, 46 assists) at the under-18 prep level.<\/p>\n

CALGARY, Alberta<\/strong> \u2013 With the 2026 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship fast approaching, Hockey Canada has announced a highly skilled and experienced group that will attend pre-tournament camp ahead of the event in Bratislava and Tren\u010d\u00edn, Slovakia.<\/p>\n

A total of 20 out of the 23 players \u2013 including three goaltenders, six defencemen, and 11 forwards \u2013 from the Ontario Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League have been selected to form the core of Canada\u2019s National Men\u2019s Under-18 Team. The group was assembled by general manager Alan Millar and head scout Byron Bonora, alongside Hockey Canada\u2019s high-performance staff and coaching personnel.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur group will continue to monitor the Canadian Hockey League playoffs, and we expect to add players prior to the start of the world championship,\u201d Millar said. \u201cAt this time, we are pleased with the level of talent and international experience we have on our projected roster and are excited to gather in Slovakia in preparation to defend our gold medal.\u201d<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s roster features a strong foundation of international experience and success. Three players \u2013 Alessandro Di Iorio (Sarnia \/ OHL), Ryan Lin (Vancouver \/ WHL) and Western Hockey League alumnus Keaton Verhoeff are returning gold medallists from the 2025 squad.<\/p>\n

In addition, 11 players captured bronze at the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, including Gavin Betts (Kingston \/ OHL), Cameron Chartrand (Saint John \/ QMJHL), Carter Esler (Spokane \/ WHL), Jean-Cristoph Lemieux (Sudbury \/ OHL), Giorgos Pantelas (Brandon \/ WHL), Mathis Preston (Vancouver \/ WHL), Thomas Rousseau (Sherbrooke \/ QMJHL) and Dima Zhilkin (Saginaw \/ OHL).<\/p>\n

The 2026 IIHF U18 Men\u2019s World Championship kicks off on April 22, with Canada taking on Slovakia, Latvia, Norway and Finland in the preliminary round before the tournament concludes with the medal games on May 2.<\/p>\n

TSN and RDS, the official broadcast partners of Hockey Canada, will broadcast 12 and 10 tournament games, respectively. TSN will broadcast all Team Canada preliminary-round games, as well as the quarterfinals, semifinals and medal games, while RDS will broadcast all Team Canada preliminary-round games, two quarterfinals, the semifinals and medal games.<\/p>\n

Former Saint John Sea Dogs defenceman William Villeneuve made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs Saturday.<\/p>\n

In a 6-2 loss to Florida, Villeneuve played 18:45 and recorded one block.<\/p>\n

The second overall pick in the 2018 QMJHL Draft, Villeneuve played 216 games for the Sea Dogs and amassed 153 points, tied for the second most in team history by a blueliner.<\/p>\n

In 2019-20 he led all Q d-men with 49 assists and 58 points while in his final season in 2021-22, he had 56 points in the regular season and league best +60 rating and then helped the Sea Dogs claim the Memorial Cup as hosts.<\/p>\n

As a pro, the Sherbrooke, QC., native has made 224 appearances for the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, the third most in team history by a defencemen, while his 119 points rank second.<\/p>\n

Toronto selected the 24-year-old 122nd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n
