RECAP: Wildcats spoil Kardi Night downing Sea Dogs 5-1
SAINT JOHN – The atmosphere was electric at TD Station as 3,243 fervent fans rallied behind the Saint John Sea Dogs. With the added energy of Kardinal Offishall gracing the intermissions, it was a night designed for epic clashes on the ice. Despite the spirited support, the Moncton Wildcats displayed sheer dominance, cruising to a decisive 5-1 victory. This outcome shifts the Sea Dogs’ tally to a season record of 3-5-1-1.
The game commenced with a bang as the Wildcats announced their intent. Yoan Loshing ignited the scoreboard, blasting a powerplay one-timer with assists coming from Caleb Desnoyers and Etienne Morin. Preston Lounsbury further dented the Sea Dogs’ hopes, netting another powerplay goal set up by Miles Mueller and Natan Grenier. The period witnessed some jaw-dropping moments, most notably Patrick Leaver’s sensational glove save at 6:47. The first chapter closed with Moncton leading 2-0, having fired 13 shots to the Sea Dogs’ eight.
Intensity remained the theme of the second period. The Wildcats extended their advantage with Desnoyers striking gold again, this time with assists from Alex Mercier and Loshing. But hope flickered for the Sea Dogs as Danny Akkouche unleashed his season’s first, courtesy of a setup by Chad Bellemare and Tristan Dassylva. However, the Wildcats continued their assault, with Preston Lounsbury finding the net once more, aided by Vincent Collard and Desnoyers. By the end of the period, the Wildcats sat comfortably at 4-1, outgunning the Sea Dogs 26-12.
The final period was marked by the Sea Dogs’ tenacity in fending off a penalty. Yet the Wildcats showcased their clinical nature as Alex Mercier capitalized on another powerplay, with Julius Sumpf and Mueller getting the assists. Even with Leaver’s remarkable glove save at 14:18, the night culminated in a 5-1 victory for the Wildcats, who boasted a shot count of 36 to the Sea Dogs’ 16.
As the dust settles, the Sea Dogs regroup and set their sights on the next challenge: facing the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at TD Station. Tickets are available at the TD Station box office, by calling (506) 657-1234 or online at tickets.tdstation.com.
