RECAP: Young earns first QMJHL win as Sea Dogs end skid
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs snapped their 11-game losing streak Thursday night at TD Station, securing a 4-2 victory over the Halifax Mooseheads.
Eric Young recorded his first QMJHL win, stopping 24 of 26 shots, while Tyler Peddle led the charge with two goals. Dylan Rozzi and Olivier Groulx also found the back of the net for Saint John.
Antoine Fontaine and Carlos Händel scored the goals for Halifax.
GAME SUMMARY
Tyler Peddle came out firing, beating Nicolas Gillham-Cirka glove-side high on a beautiful feed from Egan Beveridge to put the Sea Dogs ahead 1-0 at 13:40 in the first period. With 1:39 remaining in the frame, Antoine Fontaine capitalized on the power play, tying the game 1-1 before the intermission.
The only goal of the second period came on a Saint John power play, as Nicolas Bilodeau set up Dylan Rozzi in the slot. Rozzi’s wrist shot deflected off a Mooseheads defender and found the back of the net, giving the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
Just two minutes into the final frame, Carlos Händel out-waited Eric Young, tucking the puck past him to even the score at 2-2. Peddle responded just over a minute later, breaking in alone off a pass from Benjamin Amyot and burying the go-ahead goal to make it 3-2.
With 38 seconds remaining, Olivier Groulx sealed the win with an empty-net goal, securing the 4-2 victory and snapping the Sea Dogs skid.
