RECAP: Wrestling Night spoiled as Mooseheads down Sea Dogs
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs got the start they wanted, jumping out to a two-goal lead, but later fell behind as Quinn Kennedy took over for the Halifax Mooseheads, scoring a hat trick in their 5-3 win.
Ben Cross found the back of the net twice for Saint John, while Matthew MacLean added the other goal. Antoine Fontaine and Shawn Carrier rounded out the scoring for the Mooseheads.
GAME SUMMARY
The Sea Dogs struck first just 2:34 into the game when Olivier Groulx got the puck to Matthew MacLean, who backhanded it past Jacob Steinman for the early lead. Just over two minutes later, Ben Cross extended the advantage with a shot from the slot, making it 2-0.
Quinn Kennedy cut the deficit in half for the Mooseheads with four minutes left in the first, streaking in and beating Eric Young five-hole to make it 2-1.
4:36 into the second period, Kennedy struck again on the power play, tying the game 2-2. Halifax took their first lead of the night at 9:27 when Antoine Fontaine buried a slick setup from Amelio Santini to make it 3-2. Ben Cross responded for the Sea Dogs before the period ended, redirecting a hard shot from Zach Morin past Steinman to knot things up at 3-3 heading into the second intermission.
Kennedy completed his hat trick just 2:16 into the third, capitalizing on a blocked shot that deflected right to him, giving Halifax a 4-3 edge.
With 11:23 left in regulation, the Sea Dogs had a 5-on-3 power play for 37 seconds but could not convert. As soon as play returned to even strength, Shawn Carrier found the back of the net to extend the Mooseheads lead to 5-3, sealing the win for Halifax.
