RECAP: Sea Dogs unable to overcome slow start against Sherbrooke
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – A late third-period push was not enough as the Saint John Sea Dogs suffered a 6-3 loss to the Sherbrooke Phoenix in front of 4,215 fans Saturday at TD Station.
Olivier Dubois opened the scoring a minute in, picking the blocker side on Arseni Radkov. At 14:58 on the power play, Jayden Plouffe made it 2-0, and at 15:46 Florent Houle pushed it to 3-0, prompting Rafaël Courchesne to replace Radkov between the pipes. Houle struck again at 17:14 before Brogan McNeil made it 5-0 with 33 seconds left in the frame.
The Sea Dogs went back to Radkov to start the second. At 4:47, Olivier Groulx intercepted a pass just inside the blue line and beat Kyan Labbé glove side to get Saint John on the board. Saint John outshot Sherbrooke 14-5 in the period.
At 14:07 of the third, Zach Morin’s initial shot missed the net but was collected by Alexis Joseph for his 19th of the season. Thirty-three seconds later, Alex Donovan sniped the glove-side corner to pull within two. With the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, Louis-Alex Tremblay hit the empty net to finish it 6-3 for Sherbrooke.
