RECAP: Sea Dogs take down top-ranked Wildcats again
MONCTON, NB – Saint John Sea Dogs captain Eriks Mateiko continued his hot streak with two goals while Charles-Édward Gravel was a standout in net stopping 35 of 37 shots in a 6-2 victory over the CHL’s top-ranked team, the Moncton Wildcats. Tyler Peddle also had an impressive night with three assists.
Additional goal scorers for the Sea Dogs included Dylan Rozzi, Egan Beveridge, Olivier Duhamel, and Elliot Dubé.
The Wildcats two goals were scored by Riley Sampson and Preston Lounsbury.
GAME SUMMARY
Late in the first period, Sea Dogs goaltender Charles-Édward Gravel made several big saves but lost his stick in the process, allowing Riley Sampson to capitalize and put the Wildcats up 1-0 with four minutes remaining.
Just one minute into the second period, Tyler Peddle chipped the puck up the boards to Eriks Mateiko, who fired a sharp-angle shot through the legs of Jacob Steinman, tying the game. At the 9:27 mark, Nate Tivey found Peddle whose shot-pass was perfectly tipped in by Mateiko to give the Sea Dogs a 2-1 lead.
In the third, at 2:47, Elliot Dubé sent a quick pass to Dylan Rozzi in front of the Wildcats net, and Rozzi slid it in along the ice to extend the lead. With seven minutes left, Moncton’s Juraj Pekarcik set up Lounsbury, who scored top shelf to pull the Wildcats within one at 3-2.
With less than two minutes remaining, Egan Beveridge buried a rebound to put the Sea Dogs up 4-2. An empty net goal from Olivier Duhamel at 19:37 pushed the lead to 5-2 before Dubé snapped home his sixth of the season in the dying seconds, sealing the 6-2 win.
