RECAP: Sea Dogs shutout by Wildcats
MONCTON, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs suffered a 7-0 shutout defeat to the Moncton Wildcats in their sixth game of an eight-game road trip on Sunday afternoon. Despite 38 shots on goal, the Sea Dogs could not get one past the Wildcats goaltender.
The first period took off with an early strike from the Wildcats as Ales Zielinski scored the eventual game-winner just 27 seconds in. This goal stood as the period’s only marker, concluding the first with the Wildcats slightly ahead in shots, 11-10.
Momentum continued to build for Moncton in the second period with Julius Sumpf doubling the Wildcats lead at 9:13, later capitalizing on a powerplay opportunity at 16:30 to extend their lead to 3-0. The period wrapped up with the Wildcats leading in shots, 29-24.
The third period saw the Wildcats offence in attack mode. Yoan Loshing widened the gap to 4-0 at 3:28, followed by goals from Riley Sampson, Olivier Boutin, and Preston Lounsbury, with a powerplay goal at 16:17. The game ended with Moncton on top 7-0 and ahead in shots, 49-38.
Saint John will look to shake this one off as they prepare for their next game this Thursday at 7pm against the Halifax Mooseheads at Scotiabank Centre. The Sea Dogs return to TD Station on Thursday, February 15th for the annual Pride Night against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, and the first game of the One for All Festival presented by TD.
