RECAP: Sea Dogs show fight, but Cataractes take the win
SHAWINIGAN, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs wrapped up their Quebec road trip Sunday evening with a 4-1 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes. Despite a strong push in the third period, outshooting Shawinigan 13-9, the Sea Dogs couldn’t solve Mathys Fernandez. A late empty-net goal sealed the game for the Cataractes.
Jiri Klima led Shawinigan with two goals, while Félix Lacerte and Kody Dupuis also found the back of the net. Dylan Rozzi was the lone goal scorer for Saint John.
GAME SUMMARY
Jiri Klima opened the scoring 8:54 into the first period, receiving a long pass from Kody Dupuis, wrapping around the net, and jamming it past Eric Young.
The Sea Dogs tied the game 1-1 on the power play at 16:44, when Matteo Mann found Dylan Rozzi wide open near the crease, where he roofed it past Fernandez. Shawinigan quickly regained the lead, as Félix Lacerte made a strong individual effort to score, with an assist credited to Isaac Ménard, before the period ended.
A costly turnover in the Sea Dogs zone 3:48 into the second period allowed Antoine Pilotte to set up Dupuis, who entered the zone with speed and fired a low shot past Young, extending Shawinigan’s lead to 3-1.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game until Klima secured the win with an empty-net goal at 18:24.
