RECAP: Sea Dogs outmatched once again by Regiment
ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The Saint John Sea Dogs found themselves in trouble early, giving up six unanswered goals before making a three-goal push of their own. They ultimately lost 7-3 to the Newfoundland Regiment on Wednesday night.
Liam Arsenault gave the Regiment an early lead at 1:35. On the man advantage, Tyson Goguen buried Benjamin Veitch’s pass to the front of the net at 7:24. At 9:10, Ryan Dwyer shovelled one in before Rafaël Courchesne could get his glove on it, prompting a goaltending change for the Sea Dogs. Arseni Radkov stopped the remaining shots he faced before the end of the period, keeping it 3-0 for the Regiment after one.
Alexis Michaud scored for Newfoundland 30 seconds into the second, followed by a Dawson Sharkey goal at 5:36. Justin Larose sniped the top corner on the power play to make it 6-0 just past the eight minute mark. Olivier Groulx finally got the Sea Dogs on the board at 8:51, burying a rebound after an initial flurry of shots. It was 6-1 after two, with the Regiment leading 21-16 in shots.
At 4:26 of the third, Zach Morin found Maxime Côté on the back door for an easy tap-in past Louis-Antoine Denault on the power play. With three minutes to play, Groulx banged one off the post and it deflected in off Vincent Croteau’s skate. Goguen scored his second of the night with 59 seconds remaining to close out the scoring.
