RECAP: Sea Dogs fall to Phoenix in high-scoring battle
SHERBROOKE, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs dropped to 0-2 on their three-game Quebec road trip after losing a high-scoring affair 8-5 to the Sherbrooke Phœnix on Friday night.
Sydney Gagnon found Ilya Kolmakov on the back door for an early Sherbrooke lead at 5:25. With 32 seconds left in the frame, Alex Donovan tucked one between the legs of Parker Stockseth on a feed from Everett Baldwin to tie the game. Kolmakov restored the 2-1 lead for Sherbrooke just 15 seconds later. The Sea Dogs outshot the Phœnix 14-11 after one.
Kolmakov completed his hat trick at 3:41 of the second. Sherbrooke pulled ahead 5-1 with a power play goal by Thomas Rousseau at 7:09 and Loïc Poirier at 11:13. Angelo Fullerton flashed slick hands with a solo-effort goal at 12:07. With 48 seconds left in the period, Jayden Plouffe made it 6-2 on the man advantage.
Fullerton struck again on the power play 11 seconds into the third, making it 6-3 but Plouffe and Rousseau added goals at 12:47 and 17:03 to put the Phoenix in front by five. Baldwin and Jabez Seymour scored late to make the final score 8-5.
