RECAP: Sea Dogs fall to Islanders in goaltending duel
SAINT JOHN – It was a battle of the goaltenders Friday night at TD Station as the Saint John Sea Dogs battled the Charlottetown Islanders in front of over 4,400 fans.
Charles-Édward Gravel stopped 29 of 30 shots, Justin Robinson made 14 saves on 15 shots, but Donald Hickey was unbeatable at the other end, stopping all 27 shots he faced in a 3-0 win for the Islanders.
Ross Campbell, Matthew Butler, and Simon Hughes scored for Charlottetown.
GAME SUMMARY
Islanders forward Ross Campbell opened the scoring at 6:26 of the first period, picking up Simon Hughes’ rebound and lifting it over Charles-Édward Gravel’s pad.
Neither team managed to find the back of the net in the second period, as both goaltenders turned away multiple chances.
Justin Robinson replaced Gravel in net to start the third period for the Sea Dogs. The Islanders extended their lead to 2-0 when Matthew Butler beat Robinson glove side with four minutes remaining. With 50 seconds left, Simon Hughes buried an empty-netter to seal the game at 3-0 for Charlottetown.
