RECAP: Sea Dogs fall to Eagles in Capital City Series opener
FREDERICTON, N.B. – In the first game of the Capital City Series presented by TD at UNB’s Aitken Centre, the Saint John Sea Dogs fell 5-2 to the Cape Breton Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
Cape Breton jumped ahead in the first with goals at 4:37 and 11:32 both scored by Reece Peitzsche. Saint John answered at 17:21 when Alexis Joseph snapped a quick shot from the point on a feed from Nolann Héroux. The Eagles restored the two-goal lead 24 seconds later to make it 3-1 after one. Shots were 10-9 for Cape Breton.
The Eagles pushed it to 4-1 at 2:05 of the second. Saint John cut into the lead at 17:24 when Angelo Fullerton buried a rebound off Alex Donovan’s shot, with a the other assist going to Joseph. After two, Cape Breton led 4-2 and held a 29-18 edge in shots. An empty-netter at 17:20 of the third sealed it 5-2.
