RECAP: Sea Dogs fall to Drakkar in road trip opener
BAIE-COMEAU, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs began their three-game road trip with a difficult match against the Eastern Conference leading Baie-Comeau Drakkar, falling 6-2. The loss drops the Sea Dogs record to 6-12-1-2.
Drakkar forward Justin Poirier was called for interference at 12:41, which led to Eriks Mateiko scoring a powerplay goal at 12:56, assisted by Joseph Ianiello and Noah Reinhart, giving the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead. The first period ended 1-0 in favor of the Sea Dogs, despite being outshot 18-9 by the Drakkar.
The Drakkar opened the second period with Justin Gill scoring a powerplay goal just 37 seconds in, tying the game at one. Gill found twine again at 4:56, putting the Drakkar ahead 2-1. The Sea Dogs fought back with Nicolas Bilodeau scoring at 15:47, assisted by Peter Reynolds and Vince Elie, to tie the game at two. The Drakkar recaptured the lead with Raoul Boilard’s goal at 18:24, ending the second period 3-2 and leading in shots 26-14.
Gill completed his hat-trick with a powerplay goal 2:51 into the third period to put Baie-Comeau ahead 4-2. Jules Boilard added another at 9:08, and Raoul Boilard scored again at 17:32, making the final score 6-2 in favor of Baie-Comeau. The Sea Dogs were outshot 38-21.
The Saint John Sea Dogs are in Chicoutimi on Friday to take on the Saguenéens at 8:30 pm. Their next home game is set for Saturday, November 25th, against the Western Conference leading Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.
