RECAP: Sea Dogs fall short in tight battle with Titan
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs put up a valiant effort Sunday afternoon with several players out of the lineup, but the Acadie-Bathurst Titan would take the victory on the road at TD Station, 3-2 in regulation. The defeat snapped the Sea Dogs four-game winning streak, settling their record at 4-3-0-0.
Sea Dogs goals came from Olivier Duhamel and Darien Reynolds.
David-Alexandre Coulombe, Liam Arsenault, and Dawson Sharkey were the goalscorers for the Titan.
GAME SUMMARY
The Acadie-Bathurst Titan opened the scoring Sunday afternoon in the first period at the 8:19 point. Biagio Jr Daniele, with one hand on the stick, shoveled the puck to David-Alexandre Coulombe who one-timed it past Charles-Édward Gravel’s outstretched blocker.
The Sea Dogs tied the match 4:28 into the second period when William Yared, from the restricted area behind the net, found Olivier Duhamel out front who quickly went top shelf on Mathis Langevin. It was the first goal of Duhamel’s QMJHL career.
A Titan turnover in their own zone was picked up by Egan Beveridge and given to Darien Reynolds who dazzled with a forehand to backhand deke before tucking it past an outstretched Langevin. 15 seconds later, at the 11:43 mark, Liam Arsenault of the Titan tied the game at two. In the final seconds of the period, Dawson Sharkey went bar-down to end the period 3-2 in favour of the visitors.
Despite intense pressure in the third, Langevin held firm in goal for Acadie-Bathurst. A potential empty-net goal by the Titan was disallowed after going in off a referee, giving the Sea Dogs a fleeting chance to rally, which ultimately fell short.
