RECAP: Sea Dogs blanked on the road by Oceanic
RIMOUSKI, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs opened their three-game Quebec road trip with a 3-0 loss to the Rimouski Océanic Thursday night. Oceanic goaltender William Lacelle was the difference stopping all 26 shots he faced for the shutout and first star honours.
Rimouski opened the scoring at 13:21 of the first when Liam Lefebvre finished a passing play from Lou Levesque and Luca Nappiot. The Oceanic led 1-0 after one with an 8-7 edge in shots.
At 8:37 of the second, Dovydas Jukna doubled the lead on a setup from Thomas Belzil and Mathys Dubé. Saint John generated more pressure in the frame and outshot Rimouski 14-10 but couldn’t beat Lacelle. It was 2-0 Rimouski after two, with the Sea Dogs up 21-18 in shots.
Early in the third, the Sea Dogs had an extended power play following a checking to the head major and game misconduct to Jack Martin but were unable to capitalize. Lacelle stood firm, and Dubé sealed the game with an empty netter at 16:37. Final shots were 28-26 in favour of Rimouski.
