RECAP: Sea Dogs blanked by Wildcats 6-0
SAINT JOHN – Eric Young made his first start between the pipes for the Saint John Sea Dogs facing the #2 CHL-ranked Moncton Wildcats on Friday night at TD Station. The Sea Dogs were unable to solve Wildcats goaltender Mathis Rousseau suffering a 6-0 loss.
The Wildcats had six individual goal scorers: Juraj Pekarcik, Vincent Collard, Alex Mercier, Caleb Desnoyers, Julius Sumpf, and Dyllan Gill.
GAME SUMMARY
Juraj Pekarcik opened the scoring for Moncton 8:43 into the game on a setup by Caleb Desnoyers and Julius Sumpf. At the midway mark of the period, Vincent Collard capitalized on a rebound after Eric Young made the initial pad save, putting the Wildcats up 2-0.
The score remained unchanged for nearly 30 minutes until Alex Mercier beat Young blocker side off a feed from Preston Lounsbury with just 47 seconds left in the second period.
Desnoyers extended Moncton’s lead to 4-0 while shorthanded, ripping a short side shot from a tight angle 5:27 into the third period. Sumpf added to the lead with a highlight-reel goal on a saucer pass from Mercier with six minutes remaining. Dyllan Gill then buried his second of the season, locking up the final score at 6-0.
