RECAP: Sea Dogs battle to the end but fall short against Titan
BATHURST, N.B. – In their seventh meeting of the season, the Saint John Sea Dogs were defeated 5-3 by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at the Centre régional K.C. Irving on Friday night. Despite scoring with just 2.9 seconds left, the Sea Dogs couldn’t catch the Titan.
The game began with both teams exchanging a flurry of shots, but it was the Titan’s Colby Huggan who broke through at 5:56, marking the only goal of the first period. The Titan led 1-0 while also leading in shots 17-12.
In the second period, the Titan lengthened their lead with Milo Roelens finding the net at 5:24. The Sea Dogs responded at 12:02 when Nicolas Bilodeau and Eriks Mateiko set up Brody Fournier, who found the five-hole to narrow the gap. The period concluded 2-1 in favour of the Titan, with the shots on goal widening to 21 for the Sea Dogs and 39 for the Titan.
The third period saw a surge from Acadie-Bathurst with Roelens scoring again at 4:56, followed by Dawson Sharkey at 6:09 and Huggan at 8:10, escalating the score to 5-1. The Sea Dogs showed determination late in the game, with Drew Elliott and Coen Miller each adding goals, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Titan’s advantage. The game ended 5-3, with Sea Dogs goaltender facing a daunting 57 shots against and finishing with 52 saves. Brody Fournier’s performance remains a bright spot, accumulating 12 points in his 15 games since joining the Sea Dogs during the Christmas trade period.
