RECAP: Reinhart haunts former team as Foreurs hand Sea Dogs 7-2 loss
VAL-D’OR, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs faced an uphill battle in the final game of their Quebec road trip Saturday night allowing three goals on the first six shots against the Val-d’Or. Eric Young, Saint John’s newest goaltending addition, made his debut in the third period stopping 17 of 19 shots, but Val-d’Or took this one 7-2.
Noah Reinhart and Philippe Veilleux each scored twice for the Foreurs, while Raphaël Laviolette, Nathan Brisson, and Donovan Arsenault rounded out the offence.
Reid Calder and William Yared netted the two goals for the Sea Dogs.
GAME SUMMARY
Former Sea Dog Noah Reinhart opened the scoring less than two minutes in, finishing a pass from Nathan Brisson. A turnover in front of the Sea Dogs net led to Raphaël Laviolette burying another goal just three minutes later. At 10:35, Philippe Veilleux capitalized on the man advantage, tucking a feed from Samuel Fiala under Justin Robinson’s arm to make it 3-0 early.
Reinhart struck again 5:19 into the second period on a fluke play where the puck bounced over Robinson’s pad. Val-d’Or extended the lead to 5-0 at 15:45 when Brisson found the back of the net while shorthanded off a pass from Reinhart. The Sea Dogs finally broke through when Olivier Groulx slid the puck to Reid Calder, who fired a wrist shot past Cédric Massé, putting Saint John on the board with two minutes left in the frame.
Eric Young took over in net to start the third period. At 4:45, Brisson set up Veilleux for a one-timer past Young’s outstretched glove. Three minutes later, William Yared ripped a shot top corner on a feed from Nicolas Bilodeau. A defensive breakdown left Donovan Arsenault with an open net at 10:02, sealing Val-d’Or’s 7-2 victory.
