RECAP: Penalties sink Sea Dogs against the Armada
BOISBRIAND, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs dropped the first game of their three-game Quebec trip Wednesday night against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. Despite holding the lead until midway through the third, penalty trouble proved costly as the Armada came back to take a 4-3 victory.
Olivier Groulx and William Yared both recorded a goal and an assist, while Nicolas Bilodeau also found the back of the net for the Sea Dogs.
Matt Gosselin, Rafaël Cloutier, Xavier Villeneuve, and Egor Goriunov were the goal scorers for Blainville.
GAME SUMMARY
The Armada opened the scoring just two minutes in when Xavier Villeneuve skated end-to-end and took a shot that was buried by Matt Gosselin. Just two minutes later, at the 4:00 mark, Olivier Groulx fed Nicolas Bilodeau, who cut through the defence and fired a wrist shot over Félix Hamel’s pad to tie the game at 1-1.
On the power play at 12:56, Brayden Besner snapped the puck to Rafaël Cloutier, who tucked it past Justin Robinson.
Saint John opened the second period with a disallowed goal after video review determined the play was offside. However, that didn’t slow them down, as Groulx capitalized on a feed from William Yared at 6:25 to tie the game at two.
With three minutes remaining in the period, Dylan Rozzi sent a no-look pass to Yared from behind the net, and the Mont-Royal, Quebec native roofed it over Hamel’s shoulder to give the Sea Dogs a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
Blainville-Boisbriand mounted their comeback midway through the final frame when Villeneuve looped around the Sea Dogs net before finding the open five-hole on Robinson. At 12:24 Egor Goriunov scored the game-winning goal for the Armada.
