RECAP: Offence kept quiet again as Sea Dogs lose third-straight
ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – The Saint John Sea Dogs were unable to solve first star Chase Anderson, who made 23 saves on 24 shots, in game two against the Newfoundland Regiment this weekend. The Regiment took this one 5-1 at the Mary Brown’s Centre on Saturday night.
Dawson Sharkey opened up the scoring for the Regiment at 7:39 when he broke in alone and beat Justin Robinson shorthanded. Three minutes later, Robinson made the initial save on Louis-François Bélanger before Marek Danicek tucked away the rebound. The first period closed with Newfoundland up 2-0 and leading 12-10 in shots.
At 8:11 of the second, Noah Laberge picked the blocker side on a feed from Bélanger with the man advantage. The Regiment stretched the lead to 5-0 with a goal from Dominic Pilote at 14:18 and another at 18:21 from Liam Arsenault. Newfoundland outshot Saint John 26-13 by the end of the period.
The Sea Dogs snapped Anderson’s shutout bid with two minutes to play. William Yared’s shot was stopped, but Olivier Duhamel whacked it home to end the night, 5-1. The final shot count was 36-24 Regiment.
