RECAP: Morin forces overtime but Islanders prevail 4-3
CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Saint John Sea Dogs fought hard Friday night at the Eastlink Centre coming back from 2-1 and 3-2 deficits before the Charlottetown Islanders ultimately snapped the Dogs’ three-game win streak with a 4-3 overtime victory.
The Sea Dogs broke the ice at 18:25 of the first when Alex Donovan ripped one top shelf past Donald Hickey on a feed from first overall pick Alexis Joseph, with an assist also going to Olivier Duhamel. The first period came to a close with the Dogs leading 1-0 and 9-8 in shots.
Charlottetown took the lead 2-1 with two quick goals by Ross Campbell at 13:29 and Matthew Butler just a minute later. Shots favoured the Islanders 28-18 after two.
On the man advantage, William Yared batted home Dylan Rozzi’s rebound at 5:59, tying the game at two, with an assist to Olivier Groulx. The Islanders took back the lead at 12:50. Jabez Seymour redirected Emile-Alexandro Lemieux-Goupil’s shot with his skate past Justin Robinson.
Zach Morin sent the game to overtime with a one-time shot off a faceoff win from Yared with five minutes left in regulation, but Nathan Leek buried the game winner 1:40 into the extra frame to give the Islanders the extra point. Charlottetown outshot Saint John 39-28.
